MADELEINE COULD BE FOUND ALIVE {Merged topics}
Missing Madeleine McCann could be found alive, Britain's most senior police officer has said.
Sir Paul Stephenson said it was right for Scotland Yard to agree to Home Secretary Theresa May's request for help and said there was 'always a chance' that the young girl could be found alive.
His comments come after the decision to involve the Metropolitan Police was described as a 'ludicrous' move that would deny other victims of crime the chance of justice while using up valuable police resources.

But the Commissioner told LBC radio it was not unique for the Met to lend its expertise in difficult cases outside of its normal jurisdiction, saying a team were sent to Antigua in the summer of 2008 to help investigate the murders of British honeymooners Ben and Catherine Mullany.
Two years ago, Scotland Yard was also asked to help Jersey police investigate the disappearance of two people who had been missing since the 1980s with the result of one of them being found alive.
'There is always a chance,' he said.

'When you receive a request, supported by the Prime Minister, from the Home Secretary, you take that very seriously. This is not unique. On balance, I think it was the right thing to do.
'We do review these sort of cases and I think there may be some benefit here.'
But the review, which will be funded by the Home Office, has already sparked fierce criticism amid suggestions the intervention could undermine the independence of the force.
Last week, Lord Harris, a member of the Metropolitan Police Authority (MPA), said: 'Whilst no one doubts the desirability of doing what can sensibly be done to find out what has happened to Madeleine McCann, I can imagine that the senior leadership of the Metropolitan Police are not exactly happy about this.
'It again embroils their officers in a high-profile investigation, where the chances of success are unclear, and which will divert limited investigative resources away from other matters.'

Fellow MPA member Jenny Jones told the Mail on Sunday: 'It is ludicrous. This could take years and will cost millions. It is very unusual for police to step in like this and it is not an appropriate use of police resources.
'Although it is tragic and I feel for the McCanns, how can the Prime Minister justify spending millions of pounds on one case?'
Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, have welcomed the move.
Their daughter went missing from her family's holiday flat in Praia da Luz in the Algarve on May 3 2007, shortly before her fourth birthday.
Portuguese police, helped by officers from Leicestershire Police, carried out a massive investigation into her disappearance but the official inquiry was formally shelved in July 2008.
Since then no police force has been actively looking for the missing child.
The review will be led Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.
um homicide involvement means murder usally and yet they are saying she maybe alive that is 2 controdictions???

Unless Time Travel is truly possible, I do not think there is the remotest chance that Madeleine can be recovered alive from the situation in which she found herself.

Actually, despite all the shenanigans with sports bags, hire cars, trips to Huelva etc, the best place to hide something is in plain sight. So, in the case of, for example, a body, where is it least likely to be discovered? Did the PJ ever consider the unpleasant and gruesome task of examining the bona fide graves of others in Praia de Luz?

Exactly, as accordingly to J Edger Poe, the best place to hide something is under they're very nose.

That contradicts what's usually said about the PJ and their involvment in trying to solve this case.
In the Mirror today there's a story about Danilo Restivo, in court charged with murdering his neighbour. It's alleged that he was responsible for an unsolved murder of a 16 year old girl, whose body was found in the loft of an Italian church more than 16 years after her death.

Strangely enough the interview in Ireland brought up the question about what would happen if Madeleine were found
alive.Kate said, well, she has been missing more than she has been with us , quite a thought.

Notice Lord Harris talks about finding out 'what has happened to Madeleine McCann' not 'who has taken ' her. Telling IMO.

Hi Panda that is very interesting. According to the Children's Act, a child now has more say in its upbringing. What if a new maddie decided she was happy where she was? Who ever has here has residual custody surely?

Hi marxman, what"s even more intriguing is why Madeleine is still a Ward of Court. Apparently a QC appointed to
advise not long after Madeleiene went missing advised the McCanns to to make Madeleine a Ward of Court so that
in the event the McCanns were charged with anything, the Police would still keep searching for her. Legally . they are
not her Guardians so why havn"t they asked for the status to be lifted? Your"e right, if she was miraculously found
when in her teens happily ensconced with a loving Family , her natural parents would be strangers to her.

And???wait for it! ...... who give Kate the right to write about a ward of court??
I find this very fasinating..... writing a book that describes a violent attack on her being and memory has not been questioned( at least) by the courts.

The Mcs do seem to have friends in high places. Kate could very well have been an abused wife too. Gerry has a temper and it has been noticed that Kate can act strange at times. Could it be that the holiday group were up to no good and Kate was an unwilling looker on. Look what has happened in Australia, three lives lost because of abuse. The woman could not get away and her smile masked her true feelings.

I agree, they may have friends in high places but these same people will protect their lot by shedding dead wool!
Time will tell.
I think its Kate that is the loose cannon hence all the hand grabbing.
Their private life is their life, but their children should of least mattered.

I think he's just double bluffing the Mccans; leading them into a false sense of security. When their defences are down they are more likely to slip up.
