They each get 10 months in prison for trying to sell the child for 5,000 €

The Romanian couple who were arrested for trying to sell their young baby in Alcantarilla at the end of April have each been sentenced to 10 months in prison and have lost custody of their daughter.

EFE reports that they have lost the right to parental guardianship for a period of two years, during which time the child will remain a ward of the regional government of Murcia.

They claimed during their trial that it was ‘all a joke’, but a witness gave evidence in court saying that she clearly heard them saying to a woman they had approached, ‘If you want her, I’ll sell her to you’.

The couple approached at least four women in the street, offering to sell their five-month old daughter for 5,000 €.

The husband was sentenced to an additional 15 months in prison for assaulting and threatening officers while he was being held in police cells. He also got a fine of 750 € and must pay 75 € compensation to each of the two officers
