A contortionist and his accomplice have been arrested by the Catalan police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, after a suspicious suitcase was left behind on the bus which was due to set off from Girona Airport to Barcelona last Friday.

Officers on duty at the airport were surprised to find a man inside, with a smaller case, a head torch, and a mobile phone in his hand. Europa Press reports that he also had with him a tool he used to open up other passengers’ luggage on the bus from the airport to Barcelona.

The system the pair used was that the accomplice would buy a ticket for the bus and store the case with his friend inside in the luggage hold of the vehicle. Once the journey had started, the contortionist would leave his hiding place, break into the other items of luggage inside the hold and place them in the smaller case.

The pair are believed to have been responsible for a robbery on May 12 when a laptop and a GPS device were stolen from another passenger on the bus and investigations are underway into other robberies which have been reported.

It makes you wonder what (or who) will turn up in a suitcase next !
