Re: Sara Morales Hernández
Same location, 8 months apart, is there a connection ? We have problems in Ireland of children going missing who are mainly part of the emmigration we have seen over the last few years and child trafficking is often the reason, they are stolen back! But we don't have an issue of children just going missing as a rule. I can't help but wonder is there a roving serial abductor in the continent, although to be fair, the population is much higher, but it just seems so much more common. I remember a few years ago, a number of attempted abductions/ rape of woman in the UK were solved because they were all close to a main motorway although hundreds of miles apart. A long haul truck driver was eventually charged.

Another girl went missing in Tenerife in the summer of 2007 but she was found dead and someone convicted....
I'll see if I can find it but I remember hearing that Saras mother thought there was a connection at the time!

New search for missing girl’s body
http://www.euroweeklynews.com/news/14776.html

14 year-old Sara Morales went missing in Gran Canaria in July 2006 and has not been seen since
BY ALFREDO BLOY AND JENNIFER LEIGHFIELD
POLICE have begun a new search for the body of 14-year-old Sara Morales, who went missing in July 2006. Sara disappeared after she left her home in the southern Gran Canaria neighbourhood of Escaleritas to meet a friend at the nearby La Ballena Shopping Centre. She was wearing a denim skirt and yellow strappy t-shirt, silver shoes and glasses with metallic frames. She had long dark hair, brown eyes, and was 1.55m tall.
Members of the police and the Territorial Army, aided by bulldozers, have begun a thorough search of a farm in the Jinamar area in the municipality of Telde.
Carolina Darias, from the Canary Island Government, explained that the new search comes as a result of a fresh line of enquiry being followed by the authorities. A few months ago, police carried out searches at various locations throughout the island following the arrest of a 47-year-old alleged serial rapist in Las Palmas who committed suicide in his cell only months after being imprisoned at the Salto del Negro penitentiary.
Missing children in Spain:
Spain registers some 8,000 cases of missing minors per year although, fortunately, in the majority of cases, these are youngsters who, after an argument with their parents, run away from home for a few days and, when they return, the parents fail to withdraw the missing persons report.
In many cases, it has been one of the parents themselves who has taken the child as result of disputed custody issues and fled the country, a phenomenon which is rising due to the number of mixed marriages in Spain.
There are other cases, like that of Marta del Castillo, a 17-year-old Sevilla teenager who went missing in January this year and, as a result of police enquiries, one month later, her former boyfriend confessed to her murder. However, three months later, her body has yet to be found despite a police investigation that has involved exhaustive searches of a river and a municipal dump. Five persons arrested in connection with her disappearance have given contradictory testimonies.
Missing children’s mothers join forces:
Sarah Morales’ mother has joined forces with the mothers of six year old Yeremi Vargas, who went missing in 2007 and Amy Fitzpatrick, a 15-year-old Irish girl who went missing in Mijas as she walked home on the evening of January 1, last year.
Council refuse to help:
Not all local governments have been as helpful as that in Gran Canarias. In March, Audrey Fitzpatrick met with the Mayor of Mijas to ask for his help, but was told that the council could not afford it. “We went with the idea we got from the Canaries campaign, requesting some billboards with Amy’s photo and contact number,” Audrey told EWN, “Gran Canaria Town Hall had organised and funded huge posters of Yeremi everywhere, so we thought we’d ask for the same! We’ve never asked for anything before now and have funded the campaign ourselves. But we were told “no,” due to economics and did we realise how much that would cost?” She says.
“Considering the amount we’re after spending from our own savings and actually on the verge of losing the house, a question like that was laughable! Our meeting lasted probably two minutes tops and then we walked out.” She added.
Suffering:
The questions as to whether Marta del Castillo’s parents are suffering more with the knowledge of their daughter’s murder than, for example, Amy’s family, who are desperate for any knowledge of her whereabouts, is open to debate and most certainly irrelevant. What is certain is that the suffering of all the families is immeasurable and they need all the help they can get from the media, the public and the authorities to find out what happened to their missing children.
We ask readers to please report any information regarding Yeremi, Sara or Amy, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, by calling 617 561 319. If you have any information on any of the other missing persons, contact the Guardia Civil on 062.

Well search held up
The search of a 100-foot disused well in Gran Canaria for the remains of missing teenager Sara Morales has been held up by the amount of water still in the well, according to police.
Gran Canaria - 24.03.2010 - Divers have spent two days trying to reach remains detected by an underwater camera last Friday and it has now been decided to drain the well completely before continuing. The island's authorities have urged the media to exercise caution in its coverage of the search and insist that there is 'no evidence yet' that the remains are those of the girl, who disappeared in July 2006.

Thank you Antoinette. So sad that someone has been killed and their body just thrown away like that. Whoever that is in the well, it's someone's family member. Please keep us in touch if you find any updates.

Human bones discovered in abandoned well
Wednesday, 24 March 2010 13:48
After resuming their search for young Sara Morales who disappeared over a year ago, police have discovered what could be human bones in el Valle de Jinámar, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
After several days of digging and searching with infra-red cameras inside a well at an abandoned farm, the discovery was made last Friday. Throughout this new search for Sara, police have been specifically targetting abandoned land and wells in the area.
The operation to salvage the bones is continuing today with specialist equipment brought in to drain the water, which is extracted 25 litres per second but is being hampered by water constantly flowing back into the well. Also the rubbish that has accumulated at the bottom of the well is making excavation work difficult.
An initial forensic report on the findings is that the bones could be humnan but not those of an adult.
