It would be nice to hear that Rebekah Brooks has been arrested - is that too much to hope for??
Oh, but then she'd suddenly be diagnosed with Aspergers!

Wow, Murdoch on the run. Must buy Sunday's edition - first time last time.
Re the rumours that Andy Coulson will be arrested later being 'not true', I don't quite follow. How can we know either way until it does or it doesn't happen? That sort of thing is supposed to be confidential, I thought.

It would be nice to see those who have always profited most from the illegal and amoral actions of which they are patently fully aware severely punished, along with the scruffy pleb who normally would shoulder all the blame.

The closure of NotW makes no legal difference. Civil and criminal law still applies to NI and individuals, not to a branded publication.

Andy Coulson to be arrested over phone hacking tomorrow
Second former senior News of the World journalist to also be arrested after leaks from NI force police to speed up plans

Andy Coulson has been told by police that he will be arrested on Friday morning over suspicions that he knew about, or had direct involvement in, the hacking of mobile phones during his editorship of the News of the World.
The Guardian understands that a second arrest is also to be made in the next few days of a former senior journalist at the paper.
Leaks from News International forced police to speed up their plans to arrest the two key suspects in the explosive phone-hacking scandal.
The Guardian knows the identity of the second suspect but is witholding the name in order to avoid prejudicing the ongoing police investigation.
Coulson, who resigned as David Cameron's director of communications in January, was contacted on Thursday by detectives and asked to present himself at a police station in central London on Friday, where he will be told that he will be formally questioned under suspicion of involvement in hacking.
After being questioned by detectives from Operation Weeting – a process that could take several hours – the former rising star of News International is likely to be released on bail conditions that include appearing at court at a later date along with his three former colleagues who have already been arrested: Ian Edmondson, Neville Thurlbeck and James Weatherup.
The arrest will be embarrassing for David Cameron who consistently defended his decision to hire the controversial former journalist amid mounting evidence of his involvement in the hacking scandal.
Coulson was editor of The News of the World between 2003 and 2007. A close friend and deputy of News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks when she edited the paper, Coulson resigned a few weeks before the paper's royal correspondent, Clive Goodman, and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire were jailed after admitting intercepting messages on royal aides' phones.
In July of that year, he became the head of the Conservative party's media operation and then, following the formation of the coalition government in May 2010, communications chief for the prime minister.
He has always strenuously denied any knowledge of the illegal telephone hacking that is at the heart of the scandal currently rocking the Murdoch empire.
When he resigned a second time from his Downing Street role as one of the prime minister's closest aides, he insisted he had done so because persistant allegations that he must have known that his reporters had been hacking into voice messages had made it impossible for him to continue in his job.
Coulson is one of three News of the World journalists whose evidence to the trial of Scottish MSP Tommy Sheridan is being examined after doubts were cast on his claim that he was unaware of any wrongdoing by News of the World journalists.Evidence leading to the two imminent arrests has come from a cache of emails recently uncovered during NI's internal investigation into phone hacking.
The arrests had been planned to take place before August 8th, when Operation Weeting had agreed to pass all the relevant material in their possession to lawyers acting in the civil cases against NI for victims of phone hacking - thereby giving suspects the opportunity to discover what evidence the police hold against them.
The Guardian understands that NI had promised the police not to reveal the existence of evidence identifying Coulson and the other journalist, but that detectives began to fear the information would be leaked, after reports appeared suggesting that Coulson approved payments to police officers.

Hey, David Cameron – Ask Your Friend, Andy Coulson, What He Knew About the Tap on Alistair McGowan’s Phone
Posted on July 7, 2011 by stacyherbert| 9 Comments
Stacy Summary: Most are going to say Alistair McWho? But I mention this only because in August or September of 2003, I had lunch with a freelance journalist who worked for UK tabloids. At the time I had lunch with her, she had been working for News of the World for several months. When she arrived at lunch, she was very frazzled. She went on to explain that she had just come back from a meeting at which Andy Coulson and one other male employee of NoTW was in the room. The reason she was so shocked was that one of the stories she was pursuing involved an entertainer in the UK named Alistair McGowan. If I recall, they thought he (though single) was having an affair with someone else that was famous. Anyway, she had reported that she couldn’t find anything and she alleged that Andy Coulson responded with something along the lines of, “Don’t worry we have a tap on his phone.” She was so shocked and mortified that he was doing this but so openly stating this. She wondered why a man in such a powerful position needed to bother doing this to someone so relatively unimportant. As I said, she worked for other tabloids as well and said she had never seen anything like working for News of the World. At the time, I didn’t really understand who Andy Coulson was but I certainly didn’t forget the conversation. Cut to eight years later and Coulson is due to be arrested tomorrow.
Note that Coulson threw himself on the sword so that Murdoch might conduct his crimewave in America where he is now able to throw elections and propagandize the population unfettered:
Coulson’s resignation in effect prevented a thorough investigation of the Goodman affair by the Press Complaints Commission (PCC), and ensured Rupert Murdoch would not have to answer difficult questions about the activities of his British newspapers at a time when he was under intense scrutiny in the United States.
Several journalists, even senior ones from News of the World, have provided testimony that Coulson knew about phone hacking, ordered phone hacking and/or listened to hacked phone messages. Somehow there is never enough evidence to charge him with anything. Let’s see what happens with the latest arrest.

Coulson fighting on three legal fronts as words come back to haunt him

Former NOTW editor and No 10 press chief Andy Coulson could face perjury charges
When Andy Coulson, then the Prime Minister's communications director, told Glasgow High Court there was no culture of phone hacking while he was editor of the Sunday newspaper he was speaking under oath.
As well as denying that his staff participated in illegal practices, he told the jury that "to his knowledge" police officers were never paid for information by the News of the World.
It was an assured performance from a man whose time at the heart of David Cameron's government was already running out. Over two days of hostile questioning, Mr Coulson stuck to the assertion that phone hacking was the "unfortunate" work of a single rogue reporter and a private investigator.
Yesterday it was confirmed that Mr Coulson faces a possible perjury investigation over those remarks, but more immediately he is expected to be arrested this morning over suspicions that he was aware of, or had direct involvement in, phone hacking while he was editor of the NOTW.
Another concern is the investigation into a total of £100,000 that was paid to police officers by News International, as Coulson could be among senior figures implicated in the bribes.
In the perjury investigation, the Crown Office said that police in Glasgow would look again at evidence given by Coulson and two other senior figures from the NOTW, Scottish editor Bob Bird and news editor Douglas Wight, during the perjury trial of the socialist politician Tommy Sheridan last year.
A Crown Office spokesman said: "Strathclyde Police have been asked to make a preliminary assessment and to report to the Area Procurator Fiscal at Glasgow for consideration of any further action."
This week, the Information Commissioner disclosed the newspaper's cache of emails related to the case, previously claimed by News International to have been lost, had been discovered. According to Labour MP Tom Watson, these might cast doubt on the prosecution case.
Mr Sheridan's lawyer, Aamer Anwar, yesterday delivered his own dossier of evidence including trial notes of the evidence from the three journalists.
The former MSP was jailed for three years for lying in court during an earlier defamation case over a story carried by the Scottish edition of the paper that he had visited swingers clubs.
But during the ensuing perjury proceedings, it was revealed that details of his mobile telephone had been discovered in the notebook of Glenn Mulcaire, the private investigator imprisoned alongside NOTW royal reporter, Clive Goodman, for hacking.
Mr Coulson, who was editor of the paper from 2003-2007, denied knowledge that phone hacking took place under his leadership while being cross-examined by Mr Sheridan.
Mr Anwar welcomed the decision to close the NOTW. He said: "It is now time that those at the top of this organisation were arrested and questioned if they are not above the law."

I don't understand why she has not been arrested when she admitted that the NOTW paid police officers.
Why HIM and not HER?
