Rupert Murcoch"s "total" support for Brooks
11:21pm UK, Saturday July 09, 2011
New Corporation boss Rupert Murdoch has expressed "total" support for News
International chief executive Rebekah Brooks.
Mr Murdoch, whose media empire owns the News of The World, is due
to arrive in London on Sunday to face a maelstrom of criticism and outrage.
But he has remained largely silent amid the fallout, issuing one official
statement describing the allegations as "deplorable and
unacceptable".
However, he spoke briefly to reporters in Sun Valley,
Idaho, on Saturday, where he is attending a media conference.
When asked
if Brooks continues to have his support, Rupert Murdoch
replied emphatically: "Total."
"We already apologised," he said. "We've
been let down by people ... the paper let down its readers."
Brooks told
lawmakers she had "no knowledge whatsoever" of the Milly Dowler hacking or any other case while she was
editor.
"I also want to reassure you that the practice of phone hacking is not
continuing at the News of the World," she has said

Well if no one in authority knew anything about the hacking why not just blame the tea lady, one of the delivery drivers or another nondescript menial as is the normal practice with those Godlike super-beings who walk the corridors of power, instead of closing the paper?
The prospect of increased profits and power through the B-Sky-B takeover wouldn't have any influence on the decision...surely not..........

Yes malena, it beggars belief that after 2003 and 2007 the practice was continued.
Colin Myler , current Editor , led all the workers out of the building to the Pub and the Staff were determined to show dignity , I don"t know whether
he too was guilty of knowing what was going on. The last edition titled "Thank you and Goodbye" is selling like hot cakes double the normak quantity
was printed and the money is supposedly going to Charity.
John Yates the Scotland Yard Detective who "found nothing" has apologised publicly.
Just announced, Rebekah Brooks to be questioned by Police and Cameron to visit Milly Dowlers Parents.
Cameron"s star has waned and Miliband"s grown brighter discussion in Parliament on Wednesday on the bskyb bid.
It"s all happening.

Re: Rupert Murcoch"s "total" support for Brooks
Total support of the McCanns, could this be Karma for Murdoch and Brookes??
Mitchell says he is to be re-interviewed WHY? he only "thought" he had his phone hacked, is this another twisted truth, could it be an arrest and not a 2nd interview? now that would really put the cat amongst the pigeons
IMO if there is a connection between the Murdoch/Brookes empire and the McCanns it has to be MITCHELL, he has certainly been acting a bit odd of late,(informing us he is to be interviewed AGAIN!!) but why would Murdoch and Brookes be so protective of the McCanns, we find out the phones of Milly Dowler and the Soham Girls Parents phone been hacked, WHY NOT THE MCS????? I'm sure the Mcs and their Tapas friends are safe from the phone hacking.
Very interesting times ahead not only for Murdoch/Brookes but also the McCanns imho, both will unravel.

Re: Rupert Murcoch"s "total" support for Brooks
It's all a big publicity stunt. He's had the idea of the Sun on Sunday for some time, just to save money, and was looking for an excuse to shut down the NOTW. This way, he gets what he wanted all along, and can claim the moral high ground (Look! We are SOOOOOO ashamed at hacking people's phones!)
Except it's backfired, spectacularly. People are disgusted with both the hacking, and the cavalier treatment of innocent employees.

This is an interesting snippet from one of the stories in the Mail on Sunday.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2013046/Rebekah-Brooks-Sun-News-World-run-fictional-stories-insider-claims.html
Meanwhile, proper stories by proper journalists were buried deep inside the paper. Stories that upset one of Rebekah’s VIP cronies didn’t appear at all. It broke the reporters’ hearts.
Relationships with PR firms such as Matthew Freud’s Freud Communications were so close that if they called the newsdesk with a story, you had to run it. If you told them it wasn’t a story but just a piece of PR fluff, they would phone Rebekah’s office, the reporter would be told off and the story would go in as Freud wanted it.

snigger...
I'm tired of politicians who act surprised when they have known about something for ages...when their friends are involved and they won't speak up...when they say lessons have been learned, That really bugs me as anyone with a brain could have worked it out beforehand.

Two ex Reporters being interviewed earlier said they were given £14,000 to "obtain" information on exposing Criminal activity and this was a huge
sum in those days.
Miliband is suggesting the bskyb bid should be delayed until the outcome of the investigation , Simon Hughes agrees, thereby jeopardising the
Coalition.

Wouldn"t put it past him.
Nick Davis was the Reporter who painstakingly researched the "hacking" over a 2 yr period, the Editor of the Guardian just interviewedsays he wasn"t aware of it until he was given the Report and it was not a Vendetta against the NOTW but the moral issue involved which made the publish. Murdoch owns 40% of the U.K Press and is very powerful. He can help any Political Party as in the case of the last Election where he supported the Conservatives, but he calls in favours in return. He helped Cameron, for the purchase of the bskyb shares and terrified many including the PCC

It is always a shame when politicians use political scandal as a substitute for any coherent alternative policy/strategy which might actually make them electable.

As I write there is a discussion going on with Murnaghan and one of the guests is Max Mosely, he of the dominatix fame. He admitted
that he made a contribution to Nick Davis and a couple of colleagues with him, working on the expose but wouldn"t be drawn on how much. Obviously
he has an axe to grind with all the bad publicity he received but his financial help has proved useful in uncovering all this.

Re: Rupert Murcoch"s "total" support for Brooks
I think that the Monopolies and Mergers Commission should be reinstated, it seems that since it was disbanded back in the early 1990s there has been a series of huge empires built with unrestricted self regulation, many from what were previously public utilities....First being sold off to create an "Internal Market" then merged to form vast multi nationals with head offices overseas. Thus putting their policy making and profit reinvestment out of the reach of the UK where such decisions and investment truly belongs. (Thanks to trash such as Thatcher, Blair and Brown).Panda wrote:malena stool wrote:My God....Panda wrote:Two ex Reporters being interviewed earlier said they were given £14,000 to "obtain" information on exposing Criminal activity and this was a huge

Shaun Woodward Labour MP says Cameron MUST appoint a Judge immediately to stop any more files being destroyed. Also, to halt the bid for bskyb
until the investigation is complete
Cameron has effectively destroyed any idea he is fit to Govern Britain, as I have said before he is a reactive not proactive Prime Minister. What a dearth
of Political talent on both Parties we have at this time , at a time when we need strong Leadership more than ever.

Woodward is another clown with an axe to grind against the media. Why does it require a judge? There is a police investigation - all they need to do is apply for an order for records (if they haven't already done so). They seem to manage to get warrants when other crimes are committed without too much difficulty. The Labour Party calls for immediate action is pure opportunism - this scandal started under their watch and they did nothing.

As I write Philip Hammond, Conservative Transport Minister says to try to halt the bid for bskyb shares would be against the Law, but ofcom can intervene at a later date if necessary.!!!!!! Have I got this right? HACKING is a criminal offence and the Boss of the Newspaper which allowed it to go on is
ultimately responsible. Ergo he should not be able to own 100% of any other Communications organisation. I suspect the conservative reluctance is because David Cameron has already sold his soul to the devil in return for Power.
