The injuries were discovered when she took her daughter to hospital with a high fever last week
A 25 year old woman has been charged with battering her 7 month old baby after doctors discovered evidence of broken bones when they treated her daughter for a high fever at Almería’s Torrecárdenas Hospital last week.
The injuries included fractured ribs, two fractures in her skull and bruising on her body. It’s understood that some were old injuries which had healed, although one of the skull fractures was more recent.
El Mundo reports that police said the woman claimed that the injuries could have been caused when her daughter’s older brother hit his sister, although she admitted to once losing her grip on the baby in the bath, which she said could explain some of the fractures. She is said to have maintained her innocence throughout.
The mother was released with charges following her arrest by the National Police and a distancing order is now in place to prevent her from seeing her daughter. The baby’s father is also under investigation for any harm he may have caused to the child.
