A teenager has admitted stabbing his girlfriend to death in a row over garlic bread.
lami Gotip, 22, was stabbed more than 30 times by James Ellis,18, at her home in the Dedridge area of Livingston, West Lothian, while her young children were asleep upstairs after a row about garlic bread.
James Ellis stabbed Alami Gotip more than 30 times
James Ellis, 18, said he killed Alami Gotip because she had been "moaning at him" over his failure to make garlic bread for their dinner.
The woman's two young children, to a different father, lay asleep upstairs while she was stabbed more than 30 times on May 25.
The body of 22-year-old Miss Gotip was found in the living room of the home in Livingston, West Lothian.
The brutal violence Alami Gotip was subjected to prior to her death is testament to the violent and remorseless character of James Ellis.
Detective Inspector Phil Gachagan, Lothian and Border Police
Immediately after the murder, Ellis had been seen standing in the front garden covered in blood and holding two knives.
He told police he thought his relationship with Alami, who worked for HM Revenue & Customs, was finishing and he could not imagine her with anyone else.
Following Ellis' guilty plea at the High Court in Edinburgh, Detective Inspector Phil Gachagan of Lothian and Border Police told Sky News: "The brutal violence Alami Gotip was subjected to prior to her death is testament to the violent and remorseless character of James Ellis.
"Despite being in a relationship with Miss Gotip and although her children were sleeping within the property, Ellis showed her no compassion during the attack and inflicted several serious injuries upon her.
"His guilty plea reflects the comprehensive work carried out by Lothian and Borders Police to build a murder case against him and he will undoubtedly face a lengthy prison sentence.
"I would like to thank Miss Gotip's loved ones for all of their assistance and support during this investigation, and I sincerely hope that following James Ellis' sentencing, they can begin to move on with their lives."
James Ellis, who pleaded guilty to murder, is due to be sentenced on October 5.

Garlic bread is such a contentious subject to discuss, I'm surprised that the topic hasn't been banned before now.... Ellis is highly dangerous and plainly a risk to be at liberty now and I suspect will be so in the future. What are the odds on him receiving a 14 year sentence, (we mustn't abuse his rights you know) he'll be out in 8 years and reoffending within 6 months?

He stabbed his girlfriend over 30 times and he's pleading not guilty to murder? I'm sure you're right here, malena. He'll get around 14 years and serve half of it. Woe betide any woman who gets involved with him.
