ALGARVE RESIDENT/UK and Portuguese police discuss Madeleine case Updated
http://www.algarveresident.com/0-43516/algarve/uk-and-portuguese-police-discuss-madeleine-case
Updated: 16-Sep-2011
British police have held meetings with Portuguese police chiefs to discuss the case of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, the first meetings to take place between the two authorities as part of a new review into the case by British police.
In a statement, a spokesman from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) said: “MPS officers travelled to Portugal at the beginning of August and had their first meeting with Portuguese authorities to discuss ways to progress the investigation review.”
It was confirmed that 30 senior officers travelled to Portugal “as a means of taking the review of the case forward”.
A review into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann was called for in May by the British Home Secretary Theresa May.
Meanwhile, Madeleine, the book written by Kate McCann about the disappearance of her daughter, has now been released in Brazil and is also due for release in Germany today (Friday).
In one of the interviews given by Kate and Gerry McCann in Germany, they talk of the case and their continued hope that their daughter will be found alive.
Speaking to the German paper Stern, Kate McCann explained why the couple continue to give interviews to the media about the case. She said: “We believe that it (media exposure) will help us to find our daughter. Believe me, we would prefer to be able to withdraw from the public eye completely but as long as it could help us to find Madeleine, we will continue.”
Gerry McCann added that they were happy that the case was now being investigated by UK police: “We are very happy that Scotland Yard was given permission by the Portuguese to undergo a re-examination of the records. We will not stop investigating until Madeleine is found.”

So it's back to 30 officers now, not the 3 quoted earlier this week.

This is a nonsense article taken from various other articles.
Not sure what lies at it's heart, it may be well meant.
This tickled me though...
"It was confirmed that 30 senior officers travelled to Portugal"
Bless them but the Met don't have 30 senior Officers left.
If they did, they may have a fair bit of other stuff to attend to.
The Met will do a really good job of this review.
If they didn't it would come back again and again.
It's not easy but controversy will need to be confronted.
Now, or in a bit, or later on.
But it won't go away.

Re: ALGARVE RESIDENT/UK and Portuguese police discuss Madeleine case Updated
I'm pretty sure 30 SY officers didn't all travel to Portugal ... unless they wanted a bit of a holiday, of course. There 'd be no point in so many of them going at this early stage in the review, so I imagine the earlier reports of 3 officers going are nearer the mark. I'm sure SY will be very interested to hear just what the PJ have to say and IMO they should make a point of meeting Goncalo Amaral as he was the coordinator during the very important early months. The SY officers will be aware of course of the 4 possible theories officially mentioned when the case was shelved, so it would be interesting to know what their opinions are about each one of these possibilities. Perhaps after talking with the right people in Portugal they'll be better informed about the basis for each theory being mooted as a possibility. If the review is to be worth anything at all, let alone £3 million, they will need to consider each theory with equal seriousness, not just head off like 30 skittish Dave Edgars to look for Posh Spice lookalikes talking about new daughters ... Oops! I can see confusion ahead!

For goodness sake Kate, tell the truth for once.!!!!! You are going to Germany to promote your Book and there is no chance, after 4 years that any leads will be found. For the first time , during the Televised interview in Germany, the Interviewer asked serious questions which stunned you into
silence. Try keeping it up for a while, most of the Public around the World are fed up with the constant exposure by you and Gerry about Madeleine"s
disappearance which has nothing to do with searching for her.

Thanks maebee, I felt really annoyed when I wrote that post.
When, if ever are we going to get truthful reporting and why does the Press think the Public believe all their bilge.?

A re-examination of the records? They are happy with a re-examination of the records? I would not be happy unless it was a re-examination of not only the records but a re-investigation and reconstruction of timelines. Plus I would not be happy unless the police were re-questioning everyone concerned, including tapas friends and I would want to include myself, so that I could be exonerated once and for all. Surely a new police enquiry hell bent on finding the truth would exonerate the truely innocent. What would there be to be afraid of?

LJC I dont think Gerry knows any more than we do what exactly the remit is for SY to investigate. The McCanns wanted a Review to make sure all
possible leads were investigated, that shouldn"t take long because I tbink it will be proved that they DID follow every lead. What is in the shelved file
will be interesting but even if they prove the Tapas 9 lied about their timelines, nothing changes. A couple of criticisms can be raised, one is the PJ did not insist on a recon and Amaral admitting he wished he had checked out the CCTV in the Hotel before it was discarded.
I think for the money to be spent, SY will be answerable to the Home Office not Cameron and Members of Parliament voiced their concern at the
money being spent at the time. If nothing is found, the PJ will be vindicated, The McCanns castigated and Cameron heavily criticised for wasting
Taxpayers money. I wrote to Andy Redwood a couple of weeks ago asking if the Review would include the fund which has wasted so much money
engaging Detectives with no experience of searching for missing children . Most of the money that the Fund received from public donations has been
given on the promise it would be used to search for Madeleine which has not been the case. No reply to date, so I guess reviewing th Accounts
are not in their remit.

30 officers... as reported by the Daily Express - exactly the same size as a murder squad!
I'm really liking that paper since that sarcastic pesudo-sycophantic article!
so they could have all gone!
