AS ABOVE
Goodness knows what drove this young talented man to take his own life , thoughts must go to his family who must be struggling to understand.

Speed's Wife to give evidence at Inquest
Speed's Wife To Give Evidence At Inquest
Wales football manager Gary Speed was found hanged by his
wife last November
2:47am UK, Monday January 30, 2012
Ian Dovaston, sports news correspondent
The wife of Gary Speed is expected to give evidence today as the inquest
into the former Wales manager's death resumes.
Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg is scheduled to record a verdict at the
end of this afternoon's hearing at Warrington Town Hall.
The Wales football manager, 42, died on November 27 last
year and the inquest was opened two days later.
The initial 10-minute hearing was told how Speed's wife Louise found him
hanged at their home in Huntington, near Chester.
Police reported that there were no suspicious circumstances and a pathologist
later gave a provisional cause of death as hanging.
Tributes left at the Leeds United ground after Speed's
death
Richard Bevan, the League
Managers' Association chief executive, is expected to make a statement
on behalf of Speed's family after the hearing.
The death prompted an outpouring of grief across the world.
Shrines grew up at clubs where the footballer had played, including Newcastle
and Leeds United, both of which his wife and sons Ed and Tommy have since
visited.
Out of respect for his memory, the shocked Football Association of Wales (FAW) waited almost eight
weeks before recruiting a replacement.
Chris Coleman has now been named as the new national manager and has spoken
of his pride at the appointment but also said it was "difficult" because of the
circumstances.
The FAW is staging a tribute game in Speed's honour on February 29.
The opposition is Costa Rica, against whom the footballer made the first of
85 appearances for his country during 14 years.
A 10% slice of profits from the game will go to a charity chosen by the Speed
family.

I assume that a narrative verdict is similar to an open one which is what I expected.
Very sad indeed.

Thanks NBY , yes it is very sad, an Footballers wives have a lot to put up with.Even though gary had retired from Football the task of managing Wales
would have been onerous. I just wonder if there is a clause in Insurance which doesn"t pay up if you commit suicide.

I think an 'Open' verdict would be when the coroner/judge/jury cannot say with any degree of certainty how the death occurred.
This is what i found about a 'narative' verdict, which i dont really understand, but my guess is that they feel that what is done is done and any prying into the circumstances may not be of any real use now and clearly they accept the death as 'hanging'.
"A coroner may choose to give a narrative verdict. Although standard descriptions may be used, the only legal requirement is that the coroner gives a clear and concise statement. Whilst these can be phrased neutrally, there is greater potential for actual or implied criticism of the actions taken in the circumstances leading to the death of the deceased."

Re: gary speed
a tragic waste of life. Could it have had anything to do with the book he was said to have been writing I wonder.
