Lucy Panton, former crime editor at the News of the World, has been arrested under Operation Elveden by police investigating inappropriate payments to police for information.

Panton, 37, became the seventh suspect arrested by police probing corrupt payments to police officers in the phone hacking inquiry.

She was arrested at dawn at her home in Surrey and was today being questioned at a south London police station, Scotland Yard said.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said she was arrested "on suspicion of committing offences involving making payments to police officers for information" at 6.15am.

According to the Guardian, Panton is married to a serving Scotland Yard detective.

Operation Elveden was launched alongside Operation Weeting, which is investigating phone-hacking. A total of 16 people have been arrested under Operation Weeting.

Its very hard to accept that the UK is as corrupt as it is.

I have recently had my eyes opened reading some articles on Murdoch.

It gives a whole new meaning to the "Money Pot" on Kate's shelf in her Rothley Manor. She even put a picture of Madeleine next to it. We thought it was a shrine - but it isn't.

A shrine to money maybe. I think UK is every bit as corrupt as many other countries, the only difference is that UK has been more sophisticated in it's corruption and better at sweeping things under the carpet.
