Re: What is a pro or an anti?
I can't now get the image of Gladys from Hi-de-hi saying "there's rude" from my mind!

She doesn't alas say it in this clip though.

Well, I know where your IP address places you.
I know that, but you cannot hear an accent on the internet.
Ah wiz brung up in a far northern flung bit, but speak ordinary English on notice boards, jist tae make sure Ah dinnae git labelled a right scunner.
ETA: and 'there's rude,' is not accent!
It is dialect and when said in a Welsh accent sounds natural- see Gavin and Stacy and Stella.
Of course it's bleedin' dialect! That's pretty obvious!
You are rude and off message- I never said it was accent. I merely said that accent was not obvious over the internet.

So, what have we got? Gladys from Hi-de-hi crossed with Clare in the Community. Well, there's interesting!

If not implying that it was accent, why is it significant to mention that we couldn't hear accent when you said, 'There's rude.'?

Thanks for the support that 'There's rude' is normal Welsh idiom- some people just think it is bad English- a sort of colonial attitude.

Similar to the concept of Ma Broon crossed with Attila the Hen.

When did England colonise Wales?

Oh for crying out loud, because if it was said with an accent it would sound perfectly normal- not bad English as some pedants were implying.

Those pedants are actually correct. It's not grammatically correct English.

Someone called Nessa Jenkins used to mod a Pro Forum.
Just thought I'd throw that into the mix.
Not that it takes us any further on ...

But it is grammatically correct Welsh English. Much like Lallans is grammatically correct Scots English, even when most people cannot make sense of Auld Lang Syne.

Oh dear! It's simply dialect and however you look at it, it's not grammatically correct English!

Sorry to interrupt, but can the Thread please revert to its Topic, rather than being a platform for one Member who cannot debate nicely?

Just checking- she was a committed Pro called Jazzy on the Mirror Forum. Very supportive of the McCanns and involved in removing antis and fence sitters from the forums she modded. Ally of Rhodes and other early Pros.

I'll lock it if it looks like it's run its course, which at the moment seems likely. I'll give it a few more minutes.

I am quite happy to stay on subject, but all I did was post 'there's rude' and suddenly everyone was piling on to criticise my English usage.
