Islamist militants vandalise British War Graves.

Islamist militants have filmed themselves vandalising British war graves in a military cemetery in Libya.
The attack is understood to have taken place last week - possibly in revenge for US soldiers accidentally burning copies of the Koran in Afghanistan.
A crucifix was also attacked at the British war grave cemetery in Benghazi
According to reports militants in Benghazi, liberated last year from Colonel Gaddafi with help from British forces, attacked more than 150 graves.
The Libyan graves belong to British serviceman killed during the Second World War in the north African area.
Headstones at the Benghazi war cemetery were pulled down, with crucifixes destroyed by vandals.
Some attackers were carrying guns and wearing combat fatigues.
They posted footage of the attack on the web.
Libya is the resting place for many Commonwealth soldiers who died during intense campaigns against Rommel's German forces, including the famous Rats of Tobruk.
The National Transitional Council issued an apology on its website over the incident.
"The Transitional National Assembly records its deep regret at what happened," the statement said.
Some of the militants hid their faces during the vandalism
"It strongly condemns these acts which are incompatible with the teachings of Shariah phalanx, it pledges to work to address this phenomenon and the prosecution of the perpetrators in accordance with Libyan law which criminalises such acts."
Although freed from authoritarian control with the aid of Nato last year, the country is still struggling to adapt to democracy.

A number of people have been killed because of the burning of those copies of the Qur'An. The religion of peace strikes again!

AnnaEsse, Religion has resulted in many Wars over the centuries and if you look at the result of the British Troops being sent to Iraq, Libya and
Pakistan, so many young lives lost, so much expense and for what.....did it change anything????

I agree about the loss of life, but those recent wars in the Middle East have been about oil, not religion.

Yes, but it was Religion about the Koran and our War Dept should be renamed "Ministry of War " not Defence . Iv"e just posted about the increase in the price of oil affecting the euro crisis . I hope Briain doen"t get involved in Pakistan which looks the next trouble spot. Iran is too risky for the West
to meddle .

Wasn't the burning of those Qur'Ans about coded messages that were thought to have been scribbled in them somewhere?

I don't know, but if that was the case wouldn't the Americans burn then privately? it was the Americans as well pictured torturing Libyan suspects,
they have this Gung Ho mentality. Tony Blair has a lot to answer for, the tribal war between shiites and sunnis' has started up again in Iraq.

Well, if Saddam managed to do anything right it was to stop the various factions killing each other.
