Thanks Karen and thanks to Joana for posting the information from the files about the extensive work undertaken by the Portuguese authorities.

......and the Spanish border is only about 90 minutes away and obviously you are on the Mediterranean, and one of the aspects of why we are campaigning internationally is because she could have been taken anywhere.
Gerry in Sweden! What a plonker!

It doesn't matter what the great man says, every time he comes out with his very own brand of knowledge and logic I'm thanking my lucky stars that
I don't live in the NHS catchment area of Glenfield Hospital.
For those with cardiac problems who are not so lucky: get a vet - probably safer.

Since they abolished the Navy, I should think.

Ah, yes - those shifting sands now mean access to Portugal's southern coastline is via the Dire Straits alone.

Gerry wanted helicopters and 'everything,' while he and his wife sat on their bottoms!

Gerry wanted a 'MET' type response. I bet he's glad he did not get one as he would have spent hrs straight away in a police stn - would not have been able to set up the fund - nor hire PI's - nor mount media campaign - nor issue description of 'abductor' - nor issue posters of Madeleine - sell good quality wrist bands - travel - make all those tv appearnces - etc etc.
In fact - I wonder if Gerry had had a MET type response where he and his wife might be today!? Careful what you wish for Gerald - remember the MET are carrying out an investigative review as if the ''abduction' had tsken place in this country!
Like Anna pointed out - heat seeking helicopters would have picked up all the people searching - even more useful for the MET!!! They would be blinded when they flew over Soho but then its all Roy of the Rovers stuff this Gerry - is it not?

So this Portuguese officer could understand and speak English, which is somewhat different to the language difficulty encountered in the early hours. jimo.

The vast majority of GNR and PJ on the algarve can and do speak and understand English. Not too sure about the non-existant navy who are based on the Med and serving the Portuguese people who live on the Atlantic coast

As they got on so spiffingly with the Leic Police when they were Arguidos, I have my doubts that their relationship with the Met will be any different. Corruption absolutely everywhere so I don't hold out any hopes that we will ever see them brought to justice, but as long as we're here and keep voicing our opinions, it's not all going to go away and let them live happily ever after with no one doubting that their every word is the truth, whole and nothing but.

Re: McCann-web-of-deceit-Portugal
Keela having reread my post it seems im criticising a Portuguese officer. this is not the case, i was referring to what G and K referred to as language difficulties. It seems there were non in the early hours of the investigations as GmC says in the Swedish interview he asked for heat seeking helicopters and the Portuguese officer (allegedly) said that there were none, nor a royal navy...... regardless the Portugues officer could clearly understand and speak English.

Re: McCann-web-of-deceit-Portugal
Does anyone know how this programme was received in Sweden? And even how many people watch the programme, was it prime time - stuff like that?
One of the commentators on that page is correct, Gerry is the king in the story of the emporers new clothes - he can preen and smirk all he likes but millions see him for his naked self complete with all his lies.
It's not a pretty sight is it?

No and what i felt was so awful he seemed quite comfortable giving his spiel about wanting a Met style response and heat seeking helicopters and trying to show bungling cops with no real equipment, or a navy, he didnt even know where the Mediterranean is ..... fantasist. as one poster pointed heat seaking equipment would just show all the Portuguese who gave up their night of sleep, ex pats, holidaymakers and police searching for Madeleine. jimo
