IRVINGTON, Ala. (WALA) - The Mobile County Sheriff's Department needs your help identifying a child.
He was found wandering in front of 9740 Hodge Nursery Road in Irvington around 11:30 Monday night. The child was wearing pajamas and was carrying a small book bag. Authorities believe his name is Lewis or Bruce, but the child’s speech is very limited due to his age.
Deputies canvassed the surrounding area for about three hours but could not locate the child's parent(s) or anyone who recognized the child.
DHR took custody of the child at 240 Tuesday morning.
If you recognize the child, please call the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
Fox10 News will be following this story throughout the day and let you know when the child is identified.

Kate was probably right that Madeleine couldn't wander. A person has to be present in one place to wander from it or alternatively alive!

Re: proof toddlers can and do wander out of homes/hotels etc
I know a couple of couples, who are good friends, both now in their 60's and 70's. They have both stated that when their children were little they did leave them sleeping when on holiday.
The one couple were on a cruise and the other in a family run hotel.
The couple on the cruise said one of their little lads was found wondering about on deck looking for them.
The other couple said the hotel proprietors encouraged them to go downstairs and relax and have a meal and offered to keep a look out for their sleeping only child, a young boy. However, they said despite this he still found his way to the hotel restaurant on the ground floor.
We are talking many years ago here but both couples said they felt their children were safe. I have nothing against these people, they were caring parents, its just what they felt was okay at the time, it was okay for them.
When the news of Madeleine broke they both admitted we live in different times now. Do they feel guilty? Yes, I would say so because they speak of their actions quite alot as if trying to justify it. I guess neither couple had accommodation that opened out onto quiet streets but, to my mind, its still dodgy as children can come to harm in other ways. The one couple, the couple in the family run hotel, do have sympathy for the McCanns because, when in his 30's, their son was actually murdered on a lad's night out a few years ago and he was their only child. They admitted to leaving him sleeping on holday and admit to knowing what it is like to lose a child and they have sympathy for the McCanns.
Me, I am fond of my friends but the best I can do is stress to them that perhaps the circumstances back then are different to these days in regards to stranger danger, as I wish no offence to them. They did not have to reveal that they left their children alone all those years ago, it only came out because of Madeleine and no way would I say anything to offend them, especially the couple who lost their son in later life.
It does go to show though that little children can be wakeful on holiday and can wander out of their beds.

With regards to very young children getting outside using heavy patio doors..... yesterday, I witnessed a two and a half year old boy pushing back a double patio door (heavy type) with very little effort....
So I fail to see why the Mcanns thought that their children were safe on leaving them alone....thats if they actually did!!

On another thread there is a discussion about the playworker Amy. Amy is documented as stating she believed that Madeleine had been abducted because her shoes were still in the same place and she could not have climbed out of the window, in the opinion of Amy, because the jump down at the other side was too great. I fail to see what relevance this has somehow? A small child would surely wander out barefoot anyway, or what about slippers, flip flops, pumps, if she had the intelligence to put something on her feet.
