Another Blunder by Mister Gerry
I got this from the Amazon forum, which in turn has lifted it from Stevo's site. I don't know who this person is, or whether there is any truth in the comments. I'm bringing it here purely because I don't think we have seen it before, and it sounded interesting.

I can't believe that nobody seems to have noticed Gerry's blundering answer when, shortly after Madeleine's `disappearance', a reporter asked him. This is on record.
Q: `What is the purpose of the fund?'
R: It is to continue looking for Madeleine after the official search ends.
He was sure that none of the efforts of the Portuguese Authorities, Polícia Judiciária, Polícia de Segurança Pública, Polícia Marítima, etc. did stand a cat in hell chance of finding the unfortunate child.
The McCanns are the only people that NEVER looked for Madeleine/

I have said that the McCanns NEVER looked for Madeleine because, while their friends were knocking on doors waking up the dead that evening asking everybody to look for the little girl that `had been abducted', it was later established that her parents never moved from their apartment but were busy deleting compromising calls from their mobiles. (This is on record too).
When it was generally felt that the McCanns were not doing enough to find Madeleine and no Portuguese detective agency would touch them, they resorted to a well-known Barcelona Agency to which they paid a substantial sum (€50,000 from memory. It was not their money, was it?). The Agency immediately made a big song and dance of informing the world that they knew Madeleine was being held in Morocco and they were going to get her. I was furious. It took me a while but in the end I managed to speak to the Managing Director in clear Spanish. I asked how was it that a Detective Agency of their standing could make such a ridiculous assertion making it known `they knew Madeleine was held in Morocco and they were going to get her'. He tried to wriggle out of it but in the end he said `DON'T ASK ME. THAT'S THE PARENTS STRATEGY'.
I am in no doubt that the truth will be known and Justice will be done IN THE END. It is doubly unfortunate that the `incident' took place at the start of the Algarve tourist season so crucial for the Portuguese economy. Otherwise the Judiciária would have cut out all the pussyfooting from the outset.

Yet more reason for me to be bewildered and befuddled about how it comes to pass that there are a lot of people who refuse to see all the obfuscation in this Case and cannot even contemplate considering for even a moment that Healy & McCann might be somewhat more embroiled in Madeleine's disappearance than just (sic.) neglect/abandonment (If, of course, that particular aspect is to believed).

Re: Another Blunder by Mister Gerry
Yes, Gerry did say:
And he should be asked how he knew that the official search would end without finding Madeleine and why they planned the 100 days, 1 year etc, events so far in advance. Then there's the book, of course. Took a year to write and was written to jog people's memories. Once again, they knew that Madeleine wasn't going to be found in the meantime.
It is to continue looking for Madeleine after the official search ends.

Hello Iris, I would like to know when the McCanns friends knocked on anyones door. Between Kate raising the alarm and the police arriving, they were holed up in the McCanns apartment with the McCanns, sorting out their timelines, on the blank pages of one of Madeleine's books. In my opinion, the only people who would have been searching for Madeleine at this time, would have been the staff from Warner and any holidaymakers, who happened to be around, when the call was made that Madeleine was missing. The police weren't even searching for Madeleine at this time, because they weren't notified until 40 minutes after Madeleine disappeared.
The McCanns as we know, also made phone calls to their family, their friends including their media friend Jon Corner, who arranged for the story to be released to the British media. Gerry said he had contacted Gordon Brown and Kate's mother said she had contacted the Merseyside Priest, who officiated at their marriage and asked him to fly over to PDL as soon as possible.
All this was done within one hour of Kate "finding Madeleine gone". I'm not being funny, but why on earth would Kate want a British Priest to fly over to PDL, when she had only discovered Madeleine had been missing less than an hour ago?
Why where the McCanns busy telling all and sundry and enlisting the help of Gordon Brown, instead of searching for Madeleine? The time to notify all these people, was when they had done everything they could to find Madeleine.

Very interesting.
However, I'm not sure it's accurate to say that Gerry contacted Gordon Brown within an hour of Madeleine's dissappearance. I believe Jill Renwick, a friend of the McCanns who lives in Scotland, lives near Gordon Brown's brother and she approached him to see if there was anything he felt he could do to help.

Re: Another Blunder by Mister Gerry
Perhaps the McCanns' contract with Metodo 3 was payment for services provided BEFORE Madeleine was reported missing? One would need a large sum of money to pay for making a body disappear, even if it were a very small body. The large sums of money that were paid to both Metodo 3 and Control Risk Groups (allegedly to search for Madeleine) are highly suspicious, given that neither group had any expertise in finding missing persons.

On 3rd June 2007...gerry was already planning a Band Aid' type global concert...As he says in his own words "It will be some sort of focus around an anniversary, to tell people that Madeleine ’s still missing. I think it would be later this year, once media attention has dropped, to bring it back up, hopefully, for a short period.“It wouldn’t be a one-year anniversary, it will be sooner than that. What we’re doing at the minute has its role but doing that down the line in a few months won’t have anything like the same impact
So not holding any hope of Maddie being found then gerry? Just like the forthcoming paperback book which was publicised over 6 months ago its release date...How unlucky Maddie was to have such despicable parents like you who hold zero hope nor have done anything to actually find your daughter

It's amazing that someone could come out with such stuff and not be behind bars.

I think Gery's word hinder the search much more than they claim Amaral did.

I think the McCanns started the way they intended to carry on: raising money and making sure, by their choice of detective agencies that there would never be an effective search for their daughter. They made a business out of a missing child imo. and any money worries they had had before, which led to relatives helping with their mortgage, disappeared.
Re: Another Blunder by Mister Gerry
That is something that has always baffled me too, it is simply beyond belief that nobody has ever queried the Mccanns about their money making schemes and their ever changing stories. There are so very many "discrepancies" and I'm sure that if this was anyone other than the Mccanns they would be hauled in and questioned about them. From the very beginning it has been "something is rotten in the state of Denmark" and nothing has changed.

This was either a huge cover up of gigantic proportions or it was simply a couple of well connected high profile people pulling favours for friends of friends. I know this is a bit of a stupid statement, of course it was one or the other, but it might be that they simply got lucky. Favours were called in by friends of friends. Perhaps those helping took everything at face value at that time - a young "respectable" family in Portugal, in a mess, lets help them. Nothing was looked into in any great detail, in the early days at least, the story was told and accepted by many. Whilst even the police might have had suspicions, uneasy feelings about the abduction theory, they still entertained it for quite some time.
The McCanns had, or at the very least had friends, who had "connections" and they were used. It is all about the profile with Gerry.
Their plan went badly wrong in Portugal, but it went even more astray when they returned home - Thank You Dr Amaral and Mr Bennett.
Had these two gentlemen not become involved in the aftermath, things could have turned out very differently. They would have raked in money from the fund, written the bewk and the block buster movie would have followed for sure.
The plan changed, thanks largely to Amaral and Bennett, in the first instance.
I do not believe the reviews arose as a result of their letter to Cameron, I truly think that letter arose as a result of them being told about the reviews in advance. More damage limitation.
We will see, and we will see quite soon. Cameron has nailed his colours to the mast. If nothing happens, if they are not even re-questioned well there we have it - a cover up of gigantic proportions for reasons that will never become clear, in my lifetime anyway. If that is the case then it will be left to the God Kate professes so strongly to be believe in to ensure justice is done for Madeleine.
On the other hand, if there is a God, he will surely work to ensure justice is done and Madeleine can be laid to rest, if not in body, then at the very least in soul and there will be a positive outcome to the reviews.
Had this crime been committed in England things might have been different, the issues not so readily ignored and investigations carried out when all of these questions started to be asked. As it stands, the Portugese I am sure wish it would all just go away, the UK could up to a point close their eyes and say it did not happen here, not our responsibility to ask questions. Perhaps now they have realised there are just too many questions and indeed too many people asking them and they have both decided it is in everybodys best interest to resolve it and have finally decided to work together.

Mossman, that's brilliant! I have nothing to add, except that I too check the news every morning thinking something must be happening. When are the police going to question the lot of them/order a reconstruction?

I think it was Kennedy who recommended Metodo 3, they are from Spain where Kennedy has a second home and with his shady business dealings, it
would be normal for him to know of a money laundering Company, in fact I read he was responsible for all the Contracts.
What surprises me is the hands off the McCanns approach adopted. Madeleine was made a Ward of court in May 2007, surely the High court should
have had qualms about the way the Mccanns have behaved, The HC is the Guardian and was duty bound to ensure that efforts to find her were made
by bona fide Investigators since money was no object.

I am with you all the way on this Mossman. I think a lot of people got sucked into the - trust us we are Dr's - trap - including priests!! Once folk realised that all was not as it seemed they would be left with a lot of egg on their faces to say or act other than to continue to support them. More emporor's clothes!. But if the victims do feel trapped by embarrassment in this way - then maybe they should not. Maybe the should be man or woman enough to admit they made a mistake - that they got sucked in - that way they can easily absolve themselves from the mess and come out relatively unscathed (Brown and Blair having moved on of course, Cameron could claim he set up the review).mossman wrote:mara thon wrote:That is something that has always baffled me too, it is simply beyond belief that nobody has ever queried the Mccanns about their money making schemes and their ever changing stories. Mossman, that's brilliant! I have nothing to add, except that I too check the news every morning thinking something must be happening. When are the police going to question the lot of them/order a reconstruction?
Another excellent post Mossman
If the review was already under way and the Mc's got wind of it and hence began openly begging for one and trying to spin it their way, then that would certainly be grounds for immense optimism.
If on the other hand the Mc's were behind the initial push for this review, then I fear it is a done deal, and the Home Office is up to no good with its funding of same.
Either/or makes a huge difference doesn't it? As you say, the results of this review will tell us all we need to know!
I agree with your praises regarding the brave and tenacious Dr Amaral and Mr Bennett, who are truly the "no stone unturned" heroes in this case!

With you on every word here!
My feeling is a few well-connected people. It was manna for the newspapers who were losing readers, printing anything about the McCanns was like printing money. All the same - I think there are quite a few articles ready for publication when the balloon is going to burst.
In the Algarve News topic here, I see that the McCanns aren't going to make much of the 5th anniversary because of the SY investigation? Hmm.

Surely if they were all that happy about the review and hopeful that it would turn up good news for them, this anniversary would be an extra special one?

Well for two poeple, who up to now would turn up to the opening of a window, they are certainly keeping a low profile.
