The PJ suspects an attempt was made to trap a referee
Investigations about a deposit made to the bank account of José Cardinal led to searches at the Sporting HQ and in the house and company of the club’s vice president, Paulo Pereira Cristovão.
The PJ today carried out searches at the Sporting HQ, a source linked to the case has confirmed to Lusa.
According to SIC Notícias, investigations are still going on in the house and company of the vice president of the “Lions”, Paulo Pereira Cristóvão, these searches could be related to the investigation of a possible case of football corruption.
According to the on-line edition of "Correio da Manhã", Paulo Pereira Cristóvão, former PJ inspector and an employee of his company were made arguidos.
“DN” reports that a person with professional links to Cristovão’s company, Primus-Lex, travelled to Madeira and made a deposit on José Cardinal’s account.
According to "Diário de Notícias", the PJ are investigating a suspicion of corruption of the referee José Cardinal, who received 2000 euros in bank notes on his bank account a few days before the Sporting and Marítimo match, in the Portuguese Taça quarter finals.
The referee had been appointed for the match in question but was replaced by the Arbitration Council of the Portuguese Football Federation.
According to DN, it was Sporting itself which, after receiving a complaint, communicated the situation to the PFF president, Fernando Gomes, who subsequently informed the PJ and the Public Prosecutor.
On Wednesday, the president of Sporting, Godinho Lopes, confirmed the existence of an investigation into suspicion of corruption in the Lions club match, apologising for not being able to provide more information, because the case is subject to judicial secrecy.

Yes Panda,
article about him:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-501093/McCanns-arrested-abandoning-Madeleine-missing-childrens-boss-says.html
McCanns should be arrested for abandoning Madeleine,' missing children's boss says
And this one:
Gonçalo Amaral and Paulo Pereira Cristóvão accused of attacks on Leonor Cipriano
PJ asks for suspension for investigators
The Disciplinary Unit of the Judicial Police asks for the suspension of Paulo Cristóvão Pereira, Goncalo Amaral and three inspectors of the PJ case of alleged involvement in attacks on Leonor Cipriano, condemned by the death and concealment of the corpse of her daughter, Joana, in 2004.
A measure that for Paulo Cristóvão Pereira, former PJ does not make sense. "I was not notified of it and spares me the PJ in 2006, so there is no connection and can not be stopped at all. Moreover, if someone is proven to give as assaults and torture after the courts do not prove anything, so incurs a criminal defamation, "said the CM.
The five were accused by prosecutors of being involved in the beating of Leonor Cipriano during an interrogation in the PJ of Portimão. The CM could not get to speak with Gonçalo Amaral.

What we need (what we really, really need) is a nutters' T-Shirt adorned with this as a logo.
(Unless, of course, the abandonment is yet another dead herring ..............)

As the Portuguese Association for Missing Children was launched to find eight children who have gone missing from Portugal - though not Madeleine - Mr Pereira Cristovao - told the Portuguese newspaper 24 Horas: "We didn't invite the McCanns because they are suspects."
"When those parents told the police that they went to dinner and left the children at home, they confessed to the crime of abandonment."
"They should have been charged for that crime right on the first day

Morning TIEN,
Actually I should have quoted the whole passage, he is not such a Nutter. Who knows?, if the McCanns had not been Doctors, their undoubted
help from the British Press and a canny PR guy, they might have stood Trial for neglect and served a one year Prison sentence in Portugal.

Erm - like you would walk up to the bank of a referee and deposit money for illicit purposes - give me aa break.
If you want to bribe anyone like this ref then you leave a brown paper envelop under his bench in the changing room - does no one understand how these things are done without implication!!???

It just proves Portugal is a backward country. In the UK it is the coppers who get the brown envelopes stuffed with readies.

Strange indeed. Trying to bribe someone and paying the money into their bank account? Nah!

Pretty obvious who is behind this - the same person who has been defaming Amaral - just before the court case too.

This case has absolutely nothing to do with the Maddie case or with Gonçalo Amaral. We all want justice for Madeleine McCann but here in Portugal the world does not revolve around the disappearance of Maddie and a lot happens without having any kind of connection to it. There is a lot of corruption in Portuguese football with Porto football club managing to be champions almost every year because they have the influence over the referees. IMO Sporting unfortunately got involved a web of deceit in order to get to the cup final this year and Cristovão was the most visible part of this.
