Kate McCann feels closer to missing Madeleine in Praia da Luz
Published on Sunday 13 December 2009 21:52
KATE McCann said she felt closer to her missing daughter, Madeleine, after returning to Praia da Luz for the first time since she was named as a prime suspect by police investigating the little girl's disappearance.
Mrs McCann, who was cleared of any suspicion last year, travelled back to the Portuguese town with her husband Gerry after a court case they were planning to attend in the capital Lisbon this weekend was unexpectedly delayed.
Writing on the official Find Madeleine website, Mrs McCann said she had longed to return for two years for "personal and emotional reasons", but added: "Our pain feels much rawer here."
An update on the website yesterday read:
"Early this morning we went to the lovely little church of Nossa Senhora da Luz. It was so quiet and peaceful – a real sanctuary. Although our pain feels much rawer here, it is comforting at the same time since we feel closer to Madeleine."
The libel trial of Portuguese policeman Goncalo Amaral, who published a book including claims that Madeleine was dead, was adjourned to 12 January after Mr Amaral's lawyer failed to turn up for health reasons, a court clerk said.
The McCanns told reporters outside court they were not disappointed by the delay because an injunction on further sale or publication of the book remained in place. "Freedom of speech should not include distortion of the truth, lies, fabrication and slander," Mrs McCann said.
Her husband Gerry McCann added: "The key thing is we're here to fight for our daughter, and if anyone steps over the lines then they should be prepared to defend what they say in court."
He said the book had "damaged" the search for Madeleine because it encouraged people to believe she was dead.
"If people read it and believe she is dead then they will not keep looking for her and may not come forward with information they may have," he said.

"If people read it and believe she is dead then they will not keep looking for her and may not come forward with information they may have," he said.
The vile Gerry McCann, had a downright cheek when he said anyone who read Goncalo Amaral's book, would not look for Madeleine and come forward with information they may have. He and his equally vile wife, never looked for Madeleine when she first disappeared and have never looked for her since.
Also look at the information the McCanns have stored inside their evil brains, that they will never hand over, because they know that if they do, it will be the end of their days of freedom.
Also anyone who reads page 129 of Kate McCann's book of filth and lies, would know Madeleine was not alive. Anyone with half a brain, knows that a child of Madeleine's age, would never survive the attack that Kate imagines Madeleine suffered. Maybe this attack wasn't in Kate's imagination, maybe this is what really happened to Madeleine.
Let's face it, Madeleine was not abducted, she was removed from the McCanns apartment, with the McCanns blessing. If she wasn't, they would have looked for her the minute she was discovered missing and they would still be looking for her.
As far as I am aware, Ben's Needham's mum hasn't written a book, but that is probably because she hasn't got the time to write one. Any spare time and cash Ben's mum has, is spent going over to Greece, to look for Ben. I would not have blamed Ben's mum for writing a book, because I know that she would use the money to look for Ben.
Unlike the McCanns, if they have made any money from Kate's book of filth and lies, that money goes into the fund, is split between their pockets, their wider family's pockets, Clarence's pockets, their "Keystone Cop" detectives pockets and the pockets of anyone else who has used Madeleine as a cash cow.

I agree
I for one, can honestly and truly say, that reading Mr Amaral's book has in no way hindered my search for Madeleine. The McCanns attitude and demeanor, the police files, the bewk, and every word that has come out of the parents mouths is what has lead me to my conclusions about what has happened.
Mr Amarals book was nothing more than a handy reference document, a synopsis of the police files, if you like. That is in no way meant to be a derrogatory comment about Mr Amaral's book but having read that after having read the pj files it had absolutely no bearing on my personal conclusions.
