This was started first in the "Have you seen this?" topic. The McCanns must indeed be horrified to think that someone other than themselves is exploiting their daughter.

That's assuming that they aren't actually behind this stunt in the first place.

This must be very good publicity for the holiday company, all this extra advertising.

Now let's do the math. Will the extra income derived from the extra holidays sold, be greater or smaller than the libel claims that will no doubt follow from the outraged and deeply hurt McMoneyspinners.

Good mutual arrangements possible here. As long as the Mcs don't kill the other party it could be a really good 'win win' situation. A new form of 'marketing ploy' perhaps. All the others have taken on a really 'tired' aura lately and it's time to refresh the image. At least, if I were in the PR business, that's what I would contemplate.

I am not sure there could be argued to be any libel in the use of the photograph although some of the associated wording might be viewed tasteless if the website were aware of the image. At best I would have thought breach of copyright.

They missed a trick there, they could have sold some of those holiday packs they were selling the other year, you know the luggage tags?

This is very odd! We have Voucher Digg offering discounts on Low Cost Holidays bookings and now, on Sky News, we have this:

Lawrence Hunt, chief operating officer at lowcostholidays.com, said: "We have no contract with VoucherDigg to advertise our holidays and we are doing all that we can to contact the website and get the picture removed.

How come Voucher Digg is offering discounts? Or is this just some sort of sick joke?

ETA: I contacted Low Cost Holidays because I couldn't find any way to contact Voucher Digg on the latter's web site.

If the holiday company in question do not have any contact with Voucher Digg then it does look as if it's a really sick joke. Quite damaging for the holiday company I should have thought - who is going to book a family holiday associated with the unsolved disappearance of the century?

Im really surprised that the photo wasnt detected sooner. surely the McCs have a facility in place to scour all times of media to examine articles etc., its normal in most set ups to see what the media is saying, what the public think. they have something somewhere otherwise they wouldnt know what people were printing saying thinking etc. The Pink One omver head of the Governments Media Monitoring Unit would know about this and have it put in hand to try and manage it. they should have noticed this as soon as it appeared and taken steps then to minimise its appearance. allowing it to continue would seem to allow the McCs outrage to fester and becone headlines and allow them to be seen once again as victims. Quite frankly im not disgusted. the McCs have used Madeleine's image on travel packs and luggage tags, and her 3 year old picture is known worldwide, someone was going to use it as sometime. advertising her for a holiday in the Algarve i see as irony. my disgust lays with the events which allowed her disappearance to occur.

it also seems odd, the company linked to the ad does nt have a contract with Voucher Digg, so who had this put together and why? The question again rises as to Madeleine's status. Does the Ward status mean that the Court should act on Madeleines behalf to have it removed, or does this lie with the parents.

Id go to Portugal on a family holiday, id even go to Praia da Luz. 100,000 children in the UK disapapear every year and theyre not on holiday, does it stop people coming to the UK.

I'd go to Pdl on holiday too and I'd take young children with me too, but I definitely wouldn't have anything to do with a holiday company using a pic. of Madeleine McCann for advertizing purposes.

I think public opinion has changed drastically over the last years and not many people actually believe the Mccann version of events any more. Too many story changes, too much money grabbing, too much "I wanna be a celeb". I think people are beginning to open their eyes, at least those who can read accounts other than the rubbish printed in UK newspapers.

wow -- havent much time today but a quick look and the tide does seem to have turned -- all these places taking comments AND not getting whooshed

And let's not forget Mari Luz Cortes, whose image was also used without her parents' consent.
