Martha "Sunny" von Bulow has died........
An heiress who spent nearly 30 years in a coma - after it was alleged her British society figure husband tried to kill her - has died.
Martha "Sunny" von Bulow died at a nursing home on Saturday in New York, aged 76.
She had been found lying in a bathroom in her mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, on December 22, 1980.
She never regained consciousness.
Her husband, Claus von Bulow, who now lives in London and writes art reviews, was acquitted of charges that he tried to kill his wife by injecting her with insulin.
His two trials, in Providence, Rhode Island, were among the most sensational of the 1980s.
At the first, in 1982, he was convicted of trying twice to kill Sunny but this verdict was thrown out on appeal.
He was then acquitted at a second trial in 1985.
Prosecutors said Mr von Bulow wanted to get rid of his wife to inherit a large chunk of her wealth and be free to marry a mistress.
But the defence depicted Mrs von Bulow, who suffered from low blood sugar, as an alcoholic and pill popper who drank herself into a coma.
Two years after his acquittal, Mr von Bulow agreed to give up any claims to his wife's estimated $40m (£27m) fortune and the $120,000-a-year (£80,000) income from a trust she had set up for him.
He also agreed to divorce her, leave the country and never profit from their story.
The murder case split Newport society, produced lurid headlines and was later made into a film, Reversal of Fortune, starring Glenn Close and Jeremy Irons.
The film was based on a book by Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz who handled the appeal and second trial.
Mrs von Bulow was originally married to Prince Alfred von Auersperg of Austria before meeting Danish-born lawyer Von Bulow.

Well if he walked away without money or assets, i reckon he was innocent then.

He walked away 2 years after she went into a coma but he could have been trying to get her assets long before then

Sounds like another OJ Simpson case. These rich ones always get away with murder. It doesnt matter if you are guilty or not its how expensive your lawyer is.
