Two Children Rescued From Fire
A 3yr old boy and a 1yr old baby girl, who were alone in their house were rescued from a house fire yesterday evening. The baby is unhurt but the little boy is fighting for his life.
I can't add anymore to this story, because I feel physically sick. However more can be read about the story in the Manchester Evening News online.

http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereveningnews/news/s/1581627_baby-girl-and-boy-aged-3-rescued-from-bolton-house-fire-had-been-left-home-alone
A baby girl and a three-year-old boy who were rescued from a house fire had been left at home alone.
The little boy was fighting for his life in hospital today after inhaling smoke. He is on a ventilator and has been sedated, the fire service said.
A police spokesman described the boy's condition at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital as critical.
The one-year-old girl escaped the blaze in Bolton unhurt. A man and a woman, believed to be the children's parents, were not at home when the fire started in an upstairs bedroom at the terrace house on Longden Street in the Heaton area at 6.45pm yesterday.
The woman is believed to have left home a short time earlier.
She returned as fire crews arrived at the scene and was witnessed screaming and shouting for her children outside.
By that time the baby girl had been rescued by a hero neighbour who saw smoke and flames coming from an upstairs window.
The girl was found lying in a pram in a hallway and was taken out to safety.
Six firefighters then charged into the house and rescued the boy from a bed in a separate bedroom.
The cause of the blaze was today being investigated by police and the fire service.
It is not known where the man and woman had been or how long they had been out for when the blaze began.
It is understood that a specialist police child protection unit is involved in the investigation.
A firefighter suffered minor burns to his arm and hand in the rescue and was taken to the Royal Bolton Hospital.
The fire service revealed today that a smoke alarm inside the house wasn't working.
Ian Bailey, Bolton's fire service commander, said: “It is devastating that two young children are in hospital after a fire at their home like this, when their house was fitted with a smoke alarm – but it wasn’t working.
“Thanks to the brave actions of neighbours and our firefighters, the children were rescued from the blaze, but now we are calling upon the community to help us. “Working smoke alarms are crucial and save lives but historically, in some of the predominantly Asian communities, we have had a poor take up our free home safety checks which often
include the fitting of smoke alarms.
“Today we are trying to improve that, by working with the Bolton Council of Mosques and using GMFRS volunteers and community safety advisors we can assist in a number of ways.”

Re: Two Children Rescued From Fire
Not sure how a smoke alarm would have helped them at 3 and a baby! Hope the little one gets better quick. I bet the press slaughter the parents for not being there. Unless they are doctors of course.
Parents like this don't deserve kids and I hope they are dealt with harshly.

Re: Two Children Rescued From Fire
I personally hope that these parents invoke the McCann defense - that they were only out for a short period of time (no more than 15 - 30 or 60 min, depending on when you ask them) and were informed that they were well within the bounds of responsibly parenting by some important person involved in child welfare.
The McCanns have been telling everyone for years that leaving young children unattended for up to 30 minutes at a time is perfectly acceptable and legal. I am sure that the McCanns would agree, it is not the parents' fault, it is the fire's fault. Will the McCanns be coming to these parents' defense?
I just feel that if parents like this are persecuted, they should bring up the fact that the McCanns did something similar which caused them to completely lose one of their children, yet the McCanns have gone entirely unpunished for over five years. Then maybe people will sit up and take notice of the injustice to Maddy that her parents have been getting off scot free. Anyone who claims that these parents should be prosecuted to the full extent, yet the McCanns have suffered enough and deserve our sympathy, is a total hypocrite.

I agree totally jinvta, its just a matter of time
before someone will indeed invoke the 'mccann
defence' in court, and it will be duly ridiculed
as being totally alien to proper execution of
basic health and safety of childcare.

A similar reason could explain why CEOP were on the scene in PDL so quickly.

Re: Two Children Rescued From Fire
I put this thread on here, not to show what can happen when kids are left alone in the house. I put it on because I was angry at the McCanns who for 5yrs have not accepted any responsibility for leaving their children unsupervised, when they went out, all but one evening of their holiday.
I know they were probably telling lies when they said they left their children unsupervised, but because they had told the media as well as the PJ, that they did what they did. They could have said "Please don't leave your children unsupervised, when you go out at anytime."
Instead, they made statements like the following.....
"We have done nothing wrong."
"We are innocent."
"We are sorry we weren't with Madeleine, the minute she was taken."
What is also is sickening, is their followers, who appear to believe every word that comes out of the McCanns mouths and offer them sympathy for the plight that they not only brought upon themselves, but more importantly Madeleine.
These supporters, have either no idea, what can happen when children are left unsupervised by their parents or guardians, when they go out. Or they don't care.
The McCanns knew what could happen, but they didn't care and it's because they didn't care, that I can never understand why anyone gives them any sympathy at all. They deserve everything that is thrown at them.
Regarding this thead, I know the parents of the children were out, when the house caught fire and while I don't know where the father was, the mother had supposedly just nipped to the shops, leaving the door unlocked. Thank goodness she did, because a woman ran into the house and saved the baby, who was left in it's pram.
Kate McCann supposedly said that the reason they left their apartment door unlocked, was in case there was a fire. Does anyone know if she really did say this, or was it an "urban myth"?
If she really did say this, she should be hanging her head in shame.
By the way I meant to say "Well said" to Jinvta, for her excellent post on this subject.

Hopefully this defence will become well known and as common as "Doing a McCann" has.
None of the main papers seem to have reported on this case - shame, as comments would be tempting.

I would assume the press will be very careful what and how they report this... Wouldn't want to leave any obvious leads to comparing Madeleine and her sibling's abandonment to that of people who live in a mere terraced house.Oldartform wrote:jinvta wrote:I personally hope that these parents invoke the McCann defense - that they were only out for a short period of time (no more than 15 - 30 or 60 min, depending on when you ask them) and were informed that they were well within the bounds of responsibly parenting by some important person involved in child welfare.

Re: Two Children Rescued From Fire
The McCanns strategy of passing all of the blame onto the alleged "abducter" has worked quite well on many people. None, however, on this board have fallen for their song and dance. The question that need to be asked of the McCann supporters is what is the difference between leaving your child unsupervised and one going missing vs one dying due to an accident while left unsupervised (fire, overdose, fall, etc.)?
The fact is, there is no difference at all. The act of willfullying leaving young children unsupervised is a crime in itself, and would be aiding and abetting an alleged abductor. The McCanns can not blame the abductor alone, just as these parents can not blame fire or whomevever started the fire entirely. There is contributory negligence or aiding and abetting. Something had to happen first, before the second act was able to happen. Whomever committed that first act (abandonment) is equally, if not more, responsible for the outcome, because without the first act the consequences would not be the same.
I agree with KathyBelle, it just really gets to me that the McCanns can act so high and mighty when it is clear that they were in the wrong. It further bothers me that they never try to warn everyone not to do the same, just that they made a simple mistake. The hypocrisy of the McCanns supporters is also troubling.
Right now I would be perfectly happy with the McCanns being done up for neglect leading to harm, which carries up to an 8 year prison sentence. Enough to land both McCanns in jail and they will never practice medicine again. The twins would be passed on to someone worthy of looking after them.
My further hope is that this and other boards seeking the truth about what happened to Madeleine keep going until the twins are able to do their own internet searches. This is not too far in the future, especially if they were reading at age two like Madeline. The McCanns will not be able to shield them from the facts forever. Rant over.

Hi JFAK, I have a child the same age as the twins and surfing the net is part and parcel of everyday life. Indeed, my child younger than the twins uses a laptop like a third hand.
I showed them an old set of encyclopedia's I had when I was a child while visiting my mothers house the other day. When I explained that if we wanted to find something out we looked up these books, that there was no internet when I was a child, the look on their little faces was priceless. Going to bed that night my youngest asked me to tell him more stories from "my world". After a few minutes of this, he turned over to go to sleep and said I make up the best stories ever.
So I would hate to be in the McCanns shoes right now. Whatever difficulties they may have thought they had in the past, their problems are just beginning. They can restrict or ban internet access all they want in their own home, but unless they refuse to send them to school, their classmates will certainly keep them up to date. It is terribly terribly sad for those two little children, my heart goes out to them.

Priceless mossman!
Don't forget, it's not just about what the twins can research but also what they REMEMBER.
I hope that reconciling what they remember against what's in the public domain is not a problem for them.
