Iranian Ayatollah: “War Within Weeks”
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei told top Iranian military chiefs to expect “war within weeks,” at a recent war council meeting, according to Israeli news outlet DebkaFile.
“While retaliation had been exhaustively drilled in regular military exercises in the past year, Khamenei ordered the biggest fortification project in Iran’s history to save its nuclear program from even the mightiest of America’s super-weapons. Rocks are being gathered from afar, piled on key nuclear installations, covered with many tons of poured concrete and finally plated with steel,” states the report.
Despite more substantive reports speculating that any decision to attack Iran on behalf of Israel had been delayed until spring 2013, a parallel narrative that a military strike could take place in September or October has been doing the rounds more recently.
Whether the DebkaFile report is accurate or not, Iran has finalized preparations for conflict with its recent announcement that plans for closing the Strait of Hormuz, a key choke point through which 33% of the world’s oil shipments pass every day, are now complete.
The United States responded last month by sending underwater sea drones that would find and destroy mines and prevent Iran from being able to block the Strait.
U.S. aircraft carriers Eisenhower and Enterprise remain stationed in the waters surrounding Iran supported by several smaller attack ships.
Although U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta denied reports that his upcoming trip to Israel would include discussions on a potential time frame for attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities, during a recent visit presidentialcandidate Mitt Romney signaled that he would back an assault by the Jewish state.
According to the London Guardian, leading Israeli military figures are opposed to attacking Iran in the short term, with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu insisting he would take the decision.
However, Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz publicly denied that he is opposed to a strike and re-affirmed that the IDF will carry out orders to attack Iran’s nuclear facilities if they are given.

Oh Anna they are all kicking off . I just pray that we just keep out of the lot of it. Sometimes I wonder if that is why they do it. In fact I am getting sure that it is the reason behind all of these troubles in these countries. Then they turn around on us and we become the targets, which is just what they want. IMO only

Fuzeta, there is so much spin and counter-spin going on, leaks and accusations of deliberate leaks that we have no way of knowing who is doing what. It seems like Iran is getting organised anyway. Found this earlier.

Today the AP is reporting that an unidentified senior American official told Israel’s Haaretz news that a top Obama security official – National Security Adviser Tom Donilon – briefed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on American plans to attack Iran’s nuclear programs. An Israeli official has denied this ever took place.

Now call me cynical – but this sounds like another deliberate leak. I would not put it past this nefarious administration to even leak a false narrative in order to bolster the image that Obama is strong on foreign policy and is cozy with Israel for the election. All the talking heads in the liberal media complex can now go out and say “See – you stupid Republican racists - Obama is serious about Iran and the nuclear threat!”
I’ll wait patiently to be proven wrong.
Update (LC): Linked by Sentry Journal and Hogewash – thanks!

With Obama's popularity going down the pan, he needs something big before the election. This could be it. Attacking Iran could bring about such catastrophic results that there could be no election. Obama is a power hungry war monger.

I agree about obama but surely this is a step too far, mind you probably not! In order to try and see what is going on we all need to think outside the box these days.

Obama, imo, won the 2008 election because so many American people wanted to see a black guy as president to prove how far they had come from the days of slavery. We don't really know who he is. The long form birth certificate posted on the White House web site has been shown to be a fake, as has his selective service document and his social security number appears to be that of a man who died some time ago. Add to that all his sealed documents and the fact that no one at Columbia University remembers him and we have a con artist in what is probably the most powerful position in the western world. He has invited members of the Muslim Brotherhood to the White House and Hillary's Aide is thought to have close connections to the Muslim Brotherhood. At school in Indonesia, his religion was listed as Islam. So, who is this person sitting in the White House?

God knows Anna but it is very frightening. Only the USA could create this sort of disastrous mess. You only have to look at who has gone before to see that when it comes to electing presidents they almost always elect the worst possible candidate. It is all about who has the money for the best campaign and bribery anyway. So who really backed and put up the money for obama??

A very good question, fuzeta. George Soros was reckoned to have bankrolled the 2008 campaign as well as perhaps, the rumour goes, the Saudi royals. I think what Obama proved himself to be good at was reading off the teleprompter and the strings have been pulled by very wealthy people behind him.

Iran can complain justifiably that other Countries have nuclear capabilities so why shouldn't they. The emerging Nations
like Brazil and Mexico support them and the U.S. is becoming less dominant in World affairs. However, I can't see how
Iran can hide their Nuclear missiles under a load of rocks, how will they get access to the Stations? Also, with the U.S.
having sophisticated methods I'm sure they know where they are, as do Russia and China.

Panda, I think they're trying to protect their nuclear installations rather than hide them. They say on the video that the installations will be safe from any attack. Their positions are well known and marked on maps.
Re: Iranian Ayatollah: “War Within Weeks”
I don't think the U.S. would risk destroying the Nuclear installations, look what happened at chernobyl and that was an accident!!1 At the moment it is sabre rattling , let's hope it stays that way.

I think the US would risk it, hoping that their assessments and intelligence are right and the Iranians have not yet reached the level of uranium enrichment necessary for bombs. The excuse, if they attacked Iran, would be to prevent them achieving the right amount of enriched uranium.

Israeli PM says time running out to stop Iran's nuclear programme
Binyamin Netanyahu tells visiting US defence secretary that sanctions and diplomacy have so far failed to end standoff
Time is running out for the international community to halt Iran's nuclear programme by peaceful means, the Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, told US defence secretary Leon Panetta in Jerusalem on Wednesday.
Sanctions, diplomacy and declarations of a willingness to take military action as a last resort had not yet convinced the Iranians to stop their programme, he said. "However forceful our statements, they have not convinced Iran that we are serious about stopping them. Right now the Iranian regime believes that the international community does not have the will to stop its nuclear programme."
Netanyahu said earlier that although sanctions were hurting the Iranian economy, such measures had "yet to move its nuclear programme even a millimetre backwards".
Panetta is the fourth senior US administration official to visit Israel in recent weeks as concern has mounted in Washington that Netanyahu is preparing the ground for a military strike in the coming months.
In an attempt to reassure Israel – and counter the robust support for military action pledged by presumptive Republican candidate Mitt Romney in Jerusalem earlier this week – Panetta told the prime minister: "We will not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, period. We will not allow them to develop a nuclear weapon, and we will exert all options in the effort to ensure that that does not happen."
The question of whether Israel will unilaterally strike against Iran's nuclear sites in the coming months has returned to the fore after a period of relatively dampened speculation. There have also been fresh reports of a split between the Israeli political and security establishments over the merits of early unilateral action, following open opposition to such a move from former security chiefs.
In a series of television interviews as Panetta arrived in Israel from Egypt, Netanyahu said any decision would be taken by the country's political leadership. But, he added, "I have not taken a decision".
Following reports that senior defence officials, including military chief of staff Benny Gantz and Mossad chief Tamir Pardo, were opposed to Israel acting alone, the prime minister said: "In every democracy the decision-maker is the political echelon and the implementer is the professional echelon. That is how it always was and that is how it always will be."
He said Israel had the right to defend itself. "Things that affect our fate, our very existence, we don't entrust to others – not even to our best friends," he said.
Gantz denied that he was behind the reports, saying: "None of these stories was released by me … I tell the political echelon what I have to say, and they listen."
The Israeli military was prepared for a military strike, he said. "As we see it, 'all options are on the table' is not a slogan, it is a working plan and we are doing it."
Earlier Panetta met his counterpart, Ehud Barak, and toured an Iron Dome battery near Ashkelon, close to the border with Gaza. Israel deploys the weapons against rockets and missiles fired from Gaza.
Panetta denied reports that the purpose of his visit was to share with Israel an operational plan drawn up by the Pentagon to stop the Iranian nuclear programme by force in 18 months, by which time the administration believes it will be at a critical threshold.
