Job Figures: Number Of Young Out Of Work Soars
The Prince's Trust warns long-term unemployment could lead to homelessness and depression.
3:37am UK, Tuesday 16 October 2012
The latest official jobless figures are published on Wednesday
The number of young people out of work for longer than two years has more than doubled since 2008.
A new study by The Prince's Trust showed a 168% increase, with an even bigger jump in 18 to 24-year-olds out of work for at least six months.
Yorkshire and the Humber had the biggest increase in those claiming jobseeker's allowance for six months or longer, with some parts of the region hit by a 12-fold rise since before the recession.
There were 17 times as many young people out of work in Melton in Leicestershire and south Somerset than four years ago, the youth charity said.
Martina Milburn, chief executive of The Prince's Trust, said: "Long-term unemployment can lead to a downward spiral of poverty, homelessness, depression."
The charity will stage a youth forum on unemployment on Wednesday, on the same day as the latest official jobless figures are published.

Re: U.K. Job Figures : Number Of Young out of Work
Did you know that employees stipulate that you have to have at least a GCSE in maths and English?
If you go for ANY job you have to have it.
My son was made redundant and has gone for jobs from window cleaning to hod carrier and they are all the same.
My son went to an interview and asked WHY you need maths to load a wheelbarrow with bricks and the answer was..'because you have to count the number off bricks to put on the wheelbarrow' then he said.'why do you need an 'O' level in english and the employee said..'because you need to be able to converse with other people'...my son said...'wouldn't and 'O' level in polish be better'.....he was escorted off the site....

Re: U.K. Job Figures : Number Of Young out of Work
The Government hasn't a clue how many illegals are working in the U.K. being paid less than the minimum wage. I think
until they clamp down on illegals and halt immigration unless you have a job to come to the situation will get worse. The
leadership is lacking, Cameron hasn't a clue and the only Minister I have respect for is Vince Cable, and he is Ljb/Dem.
Cameron is hinting at withdrawing from Europe but it is all show, he is too afraid. Britain needs strong leadership and not be hamstrung by the EU .
