Re: Press 'victims' to meet PM
A report has just been shown on T.V.. Chris Jefferies , wrongfully suspected of murder was there as was Kate McCann, without Gerry.!!! I must say she looked out of sorts. There were others from the Hacked Off group . The Leveson Report is due next week and many are calling for a clamp down on Press reporting , but Boris , as usual out of sync said it would be wrong to gag the British Press which has been going for 300 years.

All this pretence, when are the Mccanns going to realise that KNOWBODY is taken in by them anymore...
She was probably TOLD to appear there as a publicity stunt...spin.

kitti, I was very surprised at her appearance, she looked dowdy, no smiling for the Camera, in fact I did wonder if this was something to do with why the McCanns have been out of the spotlight for quite a while.

That is for sure. Remember when they were still in PDL and Gerry was giving press conferences, he and Kate would arrive holding hands, her with hair ribbons all immaculate makeup, Gerry would be all pompous "I'll take one more question" Vile pair.

What are they asking for? The Leveson report hasn't been published yet.

Iv'e got a feeling in my bones that the non publicity about the McCanns for several weeks and Kate's appearance yesterday without Gerry are linked. Gerry is not shy and would have enjoyed the publicity and Kate was not interviewed and looked miserable.

Somebody said this a long time ago , a Member even suggested Gerry had a girl-friend. I doubt they would go Public at the moment if they have split because Kate's Book is going to be released and until the review is finished and a verdict given , they have to stick together. I was suggesting they may know more about how the Review has progressed and know that SY have not found any evidence that the PJ did not chase up every lead and were very competent. This result would certainly damage their image , especially as their "friend" Rebekah faces a jail sentence.

They want tougher press regulation with statutory underpinning.
They're worried that Cameron and/or a three-party consensus might shy away from such stringent measures. So they're getting their lobbying in beforehand.
Cui bono?
There might well be future genuine cases of unfair treatment who would benefit.
And there are the McCanns - perpetually aggrieved, always furious, with their accusations of mental rape.
Given their usual authoritarian sledgehammer-nut approach to all things approaching dissent, it is not surprising that Madam Ambassador pitched up yesterday to demand more Draconian control.
Cui patitur?
Even less freedom of the press, free speech, freedom to read - y'know, all that stuff that people fought for years ago.
If the lobbying succeeds, will the baby be thrown out with the bathwater?
Given our particular area of interest, it seems a chilling but apt metaphor.

Re: Press 'victims' to meet PM
I've just heard on the news that Leveson is to be published next week. Perhaps those with a vested interest are being given prior info, but why that should apply to the McCanns is any ones guess. After all Mitchell himself announced to the world they were not hacked.

malena, the Report is to be published next Thursday and your'e right , it has nothing to do with the McCanns , or anyone else who was hacked. The fear is new Standards will be set for the Press, not before time , Britain has 5 Dailies riddled with gossip and 5 Dailies which are more concerned with what is going on in the World......10 Daily papers is ridiculous for a Country the size of Britain.!!!!!

Re: Press 'victims' to meet PM
has operation Grange set up a team to investigate where Cuddle cat and Kates green and yellow hair ribbons have disappeared to, on her 'parade' (charade?) walk to see Cameron and Miliband?

Good question...if Madeleine was with a loving family then what a great way to make Madeleine have a flashback to see her favourite cuddle cat on tv with the woman who claimed to be her mother, you couldnt blame her if she said to her loving family that she would rather stay than go back to people who left her again after she told them how upset she was at crying whilst they were on the pi$$

Re: Press 'victims' to meet PM
Thanks Annabel, the photo I saw on T.V. was a side view of Kate looking very serious and of course there was no view of the red top and scarf,
Iv'e just clicked on and watched the video showing Kate walking along with Mr Dowler who was obviously the most important person there because his family had suffered the most.........talk about upstaging and the Mccanns weren't even hacked.

Re: Press 'victims' to meet PM
Why was Jimmy Savile allowed to get away with it whilst he lived? In his lifetime Savile was treated with a deference which in retrospect appears totally inexplicable. Apparently he achieved this through a combination of 'good works' with the attendant publicity, together with the use of top lawyers to control the media and hence public opinion. Once he had died it was time to tell the public that actually everyone had disliked the guy, that he was creepy etc etc. and to throw a few minor players to the wolves to satisfy public opinion. Without exception, the establishment and media figures that raised Savile onto his plinth as a shining example to us all, now miss no opportunity to express their 'shock', that they had no idea what was going on etc. blah blah blah Yet these are the very people in the background who ensured at the time that he got his knighthood - the crowning glory of the untouchable status that allowed him to pursue his deviant sexual behaviour without hinderance. IMO there are disturbing parallels to the treatment of the parents of a certain missing infant here. It seems that it isn't just about who you know - it's more about what you know about who you know and how to use the legal system and PR to your advantage. Perhaps as in the case of Savile, the truth will only come out after they are dead and gone and we'll be treated to establishment and media figures telling us how shocked they are etc. but that actually, they had always found 'something' obnoxious or creepy about these people blah blah blah.

Did he say that? I'll take one more question. He got to lecture parliament as well. Gunning for MP imo, if not PM. Delusional is one word that springs to mind. Chutzpah another.

Re: Press 'victims' to meet PM
T4two, I agree.
As has been seen with a certain lord, his word alone has been accepted that he is innocent of any misdeeds. It may of course be true but can you think of anyone else (other than the McCanns!) whose word has been believed and even been recompensed financially?

Nice one tigger.
I travelled on a Coach to Gatwick about 4 yrs years ago and sat next to a lady , got chatting and it turned out she knew Gerry.!!! She was also a Cardiologist and had met him at seminars where he was often the Speaker. I asked what she thought of Madeleine's disappearance and she said how heartbraking it must be for the Parents so I knew it was no good asking any more questions.
