KATE'S DIARY
The coverage of Madeleine disappearance while on a family holiday in Portugal in 2007 was given by Lord Leveson as an example of how stories ran "totally out of control".
Giving evidence to the inquiry last year, mother Kate McCann said she felt like "climbing into a hole and not coming out" after the News of the World printed her intensely personal diary, started after her daughter disappeare
We know the NOTW used an Article by the Portugese Newspaper , but how did CdeM get hold of this "intensely personal diary"?

Re: KATE'S DIARY
I could be wrong, but it has been insinuated in the past (no prizes for guessing where the insinuation came from) that the PJ were the people who copied it as evidence and they were the only ones who had it, so take what you like from that. I have no link to support this though, just one of those things in the back of my mind.
The diary was rather a lucky break for the McCanns, if you are a glass half full type of person. It was probably a better earner for them than the published book. Lucky that Kate decided to write it, lucky that the PJ became aware of its existance and lucky that it somehow got into the public domain.

thanks mossman, so it could have been a rogue PJ Policeman who sold the story to CdeM. I seem to remember CM getting involved in this but as you say, very fortuitous for the McCanns. I seem to remember Kate's first Book sold over 2 million copies, the second didn't do so well .The third is apparently due out next April and I think Joe Public will be heartily sick of the McCanns by then.
I was trying to think what could have caused the McCanns to publicly go against Cameron ......could it be because they have already signed a deal with The Sun about serialisation of Kate's third book??

Kate started writing the diary some weeks after the event and 'filled in' the days between 3/5 and the start of the diary retrospectively. It's an absolute gift in the way of forensic linguistics.
"Maddie and her fear of pain", (twice - changed in the book to: fear and pain).
The nightmare of putting the twins to bed every evening (no Calpol anymore I think).
Lying awake at night hating this man who has 'caused all these additional problems'. So on and so forth.
Losing Maddie seems to have been only a part of the problem then. As seen in the Irish Interview of 2011 when Gerry said: ' it's a terrible situation to be in - apart from losing your child'.
In another early interview in 2008 Gerry also says something about finding Madeleine being one of a number of significant developments.
It does seem that either losing or finding Maddie wasn't nr. 1 on the list. So what was nr. 1 on the list?
@ Mossman - I think the diary was leaked (allegedly) to a Portuguese newspaper who published it - the British tabloid then bought the articles from this journal and had them translated from the Portuguese, that's what I recall. McCannfiles probably has the details.
The diary was impounded at the end of July, together with cuddlecat, clothes etc.
