Scotland Yard detectives investigating a series of incidents that were filmed and posted on YouTube are also looking into an assault on a man in his 20s after vigilantes confronted white revellers in Shoreditch, east London.


Police have stepped up patrols in the area amid fears the incidents could escalate further and cause unrest in communities.


Five people have been arrested, including two teenagers, after a group calling itself the Muslim Patrol posted footage showing a gang hurling abuse at a homosexual man and described white women as "naked animals with no self–respect".


In a separate incident in the early hours of January 6, vigilantes assaulted a white man in his 20s in what police described as a “hate crime”.


Detective Chief Inspector Wendy Morgan, who is overseeing the Metropolitan police's investigation into the incidents, told The Sunday Times: "The question has been asked 'Are we worried about escalation?'

The behaviour was condemned by Muslim leaders.

The footage showed members of an Islamic "vigilante" group hurling homophobic abuse at a man who was walking by himself in Whitechapel, east London, and telling him to leave their "Muslim area”.

Hooded thugs shout at the man, who appears to be wearing make–up, before one tells him: "Mate, don't you know this is a Muslim area. What's wrong with your face?" Another then shouts: "This is a Muslim area. Get out of here. You can't stay round here any more."

The same gang apparently uploaded another video called The Truth About Saturday Night, in which white women were described as "naked animals with no self–respect".

In a statement, the East London Mosque said: "These actions are utterly unacceptable and clearly designed to stoke tensions and sow discord. We wholly condemn them.”

In total, five people have been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and public order offences.

On January 20, a 22-year-old was held in Acton, west London, and released on bail until March 12.

The following day, a 19-year-old was arrested after he went to an east London police station and was bailed until March 11.

On January 24 two men aged 25 and 29 were arrested and have been bailed pending further enquiries. A 17-year-old boy arrested in Walthamstow, east London, has also been bailed to a later date.

Thanks NBY......with all the turmoil in the Middle East and religion related , not once has there been any attempt by successive U.K. Governments to address the problem of immigrants which is now a cause for concern. The Border Agency has proved totally incompetent yet there is no attempt to tackle the problem. we are told by the EU that we have to accept immigrants but enough is enough , they all come to Britain because we are a soft touch .

A few months ago a small housing development was built on land that used to be a Garage, about 10 houses. I asked one of the Builders why some had attic windows and he said they were 5 bedroom houses. When the Western world has 2.3 children I asked who needs five bedrooms these days .....he said it was for the immigrants.

Panda, many of those Muslims who are forming these gangs are possibly 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants. We do need to do something, though, because some areas of our cities are becoming no-go areas for indigenous folks. Leicester will have a white minority in just a few years and that city has problems with Somalis and Pakistanis who are waging war for the drugs and prostitution trade.

Yes AnnaEsse, we don't like to admit it but many of the indiginous population are racist. It works both ways because many immigrants, mostly Muslims, do not try to integrate , learn the language or contribute to their welfare. I was quite shocked to see two junior schools in my area taken over for Muslims only . My friend who lives in a middle class area where everyone was white and owned their own houses tells me the house at the end of the road has been turned into a Mosque and all the shoes are left outside. What the answer is I don't know, Sony did a presentation a couple of years ago, I watched it on youtube at the time but can't find it now. It said while the Western World settles of 2.5 children, Muslims have 5.7 so in 40 years time they Will rule the World. Also, what our children are being taught now will be obsolete by the time they leave school.
