mcanns have option to put maddie on missing peoples website and dont
And last but not least... a little nugget that's doing the rounds. An email from the Missing Abroad charity in response to a query from a member of the public as to why Madeleine doesn't have her own page or free, downloadable poster. Why she doesn't warrant a single mention on the site at all. Read it and weep, folks. Read it and weep...

Thanks for your email.
Every time a new missing person profile is added to our website it is only with the express approval or request of the immediate family or guardian.
The day Madeleine was reported missing we offered our services and we did run a profile of her for a while, however the McCann’s staff contacted us and asked us to take it off the site as they had their own campaigns and didn’t require our help.
Kate is aware of the services we offer and indeed I have worked with her on the All Party Parliamentary Group dealing with Missing and Runaway Children and Adults.
Of course if it is requested we would immediately place a new profile on our website, but as long as they don’t ask, I’m afraid Madeleine won’t be on there.
I hope that answers your query?
Best wishes,

A Statement from Missing Abroad
Submitted by support team on January 31, 2013 - 11:12am
Missing Abroad has received an unprecedented amount of enquiries in the last 48 hours regarding Madeleine McCann. These enquiries have predominantly been asking why Madeleine is not featured on our website.
Unfortunately, a large amount of interest has been generated in this and many people have speculated and come to their own, incorrect, conclusions.
At the time Madeleine disappeared, Missing Abroad did not exist. Instead, The Lucie Blackman Trust website (The organisation that runs Missing Abroad) posted a banner and links to a downloadable poster of Madeleine to assist in the search.
The Lucie Blackman Trust did not feature missing persons at the time and was a personal safety website. It featured detailed news updates about the horrific death of Lucie Blackman in Tokyo.
We understand that at the time it was not desired to draw a comparison between Lucie and Madeleine and given that Lucie’s case was regularly featured in the international news we agreed. We were called by a member of staff helping the McCann family who asked us to remove the content. Therefore we removed the links and banner from the website.
At the time the media and publicity surrounding Madeleine’s case was far greater than the attention our website was receiving. Even today, it is doubtful that Missing Abroad could achieve anything that would significantly boost Madeleine’s profile.
It is incorrect to surmise that Kate and Gerry McCann refused the services of Missing Abroad – there were no such services at the time.
It is incorrect to surmise that Kate and Gerry McCann insisted the content was removed – they did not.
Any family that does want a missing person publicised on the Missing Abroad website can request to do so.
Missing Abroad requests that all speculation, publication of private emails without consent, and all activities that detract from the search for all missing persons immediately ceases. We are consulting with police and offer our full support to the McCann family and the Metropolitan Police review.
Our primary concern is the search for missing persons abroad. These activities have weakened our ability to help all families in need.

So, said people tried to help the McCanns via their differently named parent organisation.
But the McCanns via a 'member of staff' still rejected that help (by asking them to remove the content).
And that's it - whichever way hairs are being split.
Remind me someone - is it 'No Stone Unturned' or 'No Turn Unstoned'?

From day one it has all been about control. Controlling the news, controlling the information, controlling the money. I am therefore not surprised that they do not want anyone 'searching' who is not on the payroll, in other words, under their control.

At the time the media and publicity surrounding Madeleine’s case was far greater than the attention our website was receiving. Even today, it is doubtful that Missing Abroad could achieve anything that would significantly boost Madeleine’s profile.
But surely to God, even if the media interest was far greater and the McCanns had all the publicity they ever desired at their fingertips, what would be so wrong in keeping it on a website? Eventually the interest wanes, so it is not doubtful in my opinion that Missing Abroad couldn't achieve anything that would significantly boost Madeleine's profile. In fact the opposite, because interest in the McCanns has waned, there are many people just not interested anymore. The fact it was a different website originally doesn't matter either - splitting hairs I think. But it is now called Missing Abroad, Madeleline is the most well know missing person abroad, she should be on there, she could be placed on there at any time. She has been missing, (lost count now), 5 1/2 years and counting? She should, if nothing else, have been placed on there when the first signs of public interest fading away were noticed. Its a disgrace on the part of the McCanns and all involved with them.

Re: mcanns have option to put maddie on missing peoples website and dont
Putting this into context...The mccanns don't want MissingAbroad to advertise their missing child, who, after all...went missing abroad. But rather listen to 195 crackpot "physics' with their 'visions' instead to find their missing daughter
Sound like a couple who are seriously are looking for their missing child?

Well, there's no money to be made from these other Missing People websites. They're charities, aren't they?

Speaking in general terms it would appear that many charities are not in reality set up for the benefit
of those they are supposed to be helping. Numerous appeals are often made for funds, which people expect to be spent on helping the vulnerable people, only for the funds to be spent on over excessive salaries for staff, spending lots of money on "expenses" inappropriately, luxurious offices, changing stationery by constant rebranding or slight changes to logo etc., every few months chucking out loads of statonery there is nothing wong with, producing expensive glossy reports etc.etc. - then they have the cheek to say they have no money to help the vulnerable people!!

"Any family that does want a missing person publicised on the Missing Abroad website can request to do so."
How unusual is it for a 'distraught family' who are frantic and at their wits end with worry, to decline any assistance in the search for their missing child?
This family are running out of feet to shoot themselves in....
Well, they would be if they weren't basking in high level support..

They are happy enough to draw comparisons between Madeleine and "pretend" missing persons, though.

This is very true. I worked for the NSPCC (admin role) a few years back. The department I was in was told to order stationery even though none was needed, but because their budget allowed for this expenditure and if the budget was not spent, there was a risk of it being deemed too high and it would therefore be slashed the following year, so it was very, very important to make sure that the whole of the budget was spent, no matter it was spent on unimportant items.
