Doing A Huhne

The despicable actions of Chris Huhne finally bit him on the bum and at least he had the sense to cough once he realised the game was up.

But aren't there lots of parallels with our favourite couple in the Madeleine affair?

A sense of arrogance, self-righteousness and downright deceit, possibly with side-orders of self-denial, delusion and grandeur.


So, my question is this: Would Healy & McCann ever find it within themselves to come clean before the moment any Criminal Trial were to commence, or would they just maintain the charade through to the bitter end?

Would they have enough money left in the fund to bribe the judge and jurors...that is the question.

Given that they have shown that they are capable of caving in at the last moment over a libel trial, it may well be possible that they would do so at a criminal trial.

But with further reference to the Huhne story, maybe one of them might use 'marital coercion' as a defence.
Along with a dollop of 'diminished responsibility' for good measure.
Wouldn't be at all surprised if one tried to throw the other under the proverbial bus.

Have no doubt they would maintain the charade to the bitter end and beyond.

Kate will blame Gerry using domestic violence.....Gerry will blame Kate and say he was playing tennis and wasn't even there ...so who will the press blame..... Kate.....

I remember Gerry's Mother being interviewed and she said one of her daughters told her that Kate had screamed at Gerry "It's me they are after, not you".

I think the same. They will deny everything until it becomes apparent to them they're banged to rights, then they will blame each other and *ahem * do the big reveal to obtain a lesser sentence, still hoping the other takes the blame.

These people will never admit to anything.

They have revealed that the UK justice system can be manipulated providing one knows the right people.

Maybe - but not enduringly.

We have rather a lot of chickens coming home to roost at present and that actually shows our Justice system (flawed as all systems must be) in a very good light.

I think it's the amount of chickens flocking in to roost at the same time which has drawn attention to the corrupt practices inherent our justice system and the politicians, judges and police officers who abuse it to suit their own ends.

I'd far rather live in our imperfect democracy with our imperfect systems than absolutely anywhere else in the world.

I would like to see the democratic society which we live in governed by a system which is seen to be fair. Where all who abuse trust or break the laws of our society are dealt with as equals.

I have no issue with that at all - I do consider (and always have considered) other people to be equal and treated them accordingly. I've never engaged with nonsense like "Class", nor with "Power", and if someone is trying to act superior I apply that apocryphal process of imagining them on the bog!

And if there is an issue I feel strongly about, I don't sit back and complain, but make whatever representations I feel appropriate.

In other words, I don't refer to "them" ............... because "them" is "us".

Badness is not confined to the Police, Government, Judiciary, etc, and because those in post are no more or less than equals, the flip-side is that it is a given that they are bound to have some bad people in their midst.

So (getting slowly back to the Topic!), Huhne is clearly someone who thinks he is "them" as opposed to "us" but has now learned otherwise, because "us" triumphed.
