Gerry McCann: Make Leveson's Proposals Law
Lord Leveson's proposals should be made law "without
checking whether the press is happy", Mr McCann tells Sky.

Lord Leveson's proposals should be made law "without

Gerry and Kate McCann arrive to give evidence to the
Leveson Inquiry
The father of missing Madeleine McCann has told Sky News that the
Government should put Lord Leveson's recommendations into law "without meddling
and back-door deals".
Writing for Sky News Online, Dr Gerry McCann said: "Anything less
than Leveson's full recommendations will never satisfy the victims of press
abuse."
Dr McCann and his wife Kate gave evidence to Lord Justice Leveson's inquiry
into press standards and ethics about their treatment by the media following the
disappearance of their daughter Madeleine in May 2007.
She disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, shortly
before her fourth birthday and the family has been the subject of high-profile
press coverage ever since.
The McCanns were among dozens of witnesses who gave evidence to Lord Leveson
in the wake of the 2011 phone-hacking scandal which ultimately led to the
closure of the News Of The World Sunday tabloid.
The Leveson
Report proposed that a new press regulator needed statutory
underpinning if it were to be truly independent.
But Prime Minister David Cameron has argued against the need for new
legislation to bring the press to heel.
The Conservatives have unveiled plans for a Royal Charter which Culture
Secretary Maria Miller said would allow the principles in Lord Leveson's report
to be "implemented swiftly and in a practical fashion".
She said: "I have grave concerns about a press bill and am not convinced that
it is necessary on the grounds of principle, practicality or necessity."
But Dr McCann, who is active in the Hacked Off campaign, was critical of the charter
proposal saying: "The Conservative party can't rewrite Leveson now."
Hacked Off earlier dismissed the Charter plan as "a surrender to press
pressure" and reiterated its call for Lord Leveson's recommendations to be
implemented in full.

Im going to read the summing up of the PJ, what did it say again about the parents?

No mention of the DNA samples, no personal thank you from the McCanns ........Gerry is definitely going into Politics, I'm sure a seat will be found for him to contend before the next Election, watch this space. he hasn't got the sense of Humour and popularity of Boris though has he.

come on Panda, there is nothing so important as McCs sound bites: i think they knew it wouldnt be Madeleine so its yesterdays news now. it doesnt serve them to comment so they dont. anyway Hacked off gets them more column inches.

Re: Gerry McCann: Make Leveson's Proposal Law
They are so shallow, Kate trying to latch on to Missing Persons, Gerry Politics. tanzi , there was a charge the Portugese could have made against the McCanns , 1 Year Prison Sentence for "neglect" which lapsed because the PJ was going for the big one "neglect causing harm" which carried a 10 year sentence. I suspect the PJ having already spent so much money opted to shelve the case rather than go through a long Trial.tanszi wrote:ok move on find the next bandwagon to jump on. jimo. this is what happens when you go out and leave small children unattended. it doesnt mater what is done reputation, character and anything that was good went that night and it cannot be undone. as for victims, the only one in this case is Madeleine jimo. Yes, the press published all those releases from the 'spokesman,' paid Kate to serialise her bewk and actually helped to get them their review. Now, this is how Gerry thanks them! Let's hope there are at least a couple of investigative journalists beavering quietly away just waiting for the right time!
Re: Gerry McCann: Make Leveson's Proposal Law
anna i think in a way they are biting back slow but sure -- i know that it might not look like it is -- but by printing about gerry and his rantings they are letting the public decide -- also it is a very very long time since any comments were allowed along with a story -- when they have been allowed in the past whooosh went the ones against the mcanns sometimes streight away

Perhaps the 'outcome' of the SY 'review' funded by that same nasty Conservative party is getting re-written even as we speak!
Be careful what you wish for!
Bit hypocritical of the McCanns.
Where were they campaigning for TB when he was getting victimised in the press?
Or do they only pick and choose 'victims' of the press that they can manipulate to their agenda?
TB was a victim of the press but the McCanns kept remarkably silent!

Journo-jerry he's after Clarry's job. Couldn't talk outside the house in Rothley when they hid behind Clarry looking shifty in Sept 2007. Now they jump on any bandwagon, but no mention today of the NZ dna. Weird.
Second thoughts: he's after Camoron's job and he's got all the credential!

Re: Gerry McCann: Make Leveson's Proposal Law
Yes, Gerry could have used the occasion to publicly thank the NZ Family and Police for their help, very odd that he didn't.
No News on the negotiations on how long the Parties have to reach agreement regarding the McCann/amaral Trial, I read 20 days and up to 6 months ....I would say 20 days is long enough, unless the McCanns stall until Tony's fate is revealed, if he goes to jail as Spudgun suggests it puts the McCanns in a strong positionto deal with Amaral.

Gerry likes being in charge and I don't think the Celebrities are bothered, they only formed the Hacked Off group to have their say , which they did.tanszi wrote:
I still don't understand why the McCanns weren't hacked, such a high profile couple always in the News.
