The remit of Operation Grange (just to remind ourselves) from the Met Website)
I thought it might be worth posting this up again, seeing as the anniversary of Madeleine's disappearnce is coming up. She would have been/is 10 years old on May 12.
Op Grange Remit
The support and expertise proffered by the Commissioner will be provided by the Homicide & Serious Crime Command - SCD1.
The activity, in the first instance, will be that of an ‘investigative review’. This will entail a review of the whole of the investigation(s) which have been conducted in to the circumstances of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.
The focus of the review will be of the material held by three main stakeholders (and in the following order of primacy);
· The Portuguese Law Enforcement agencies.
· UK Law Enforcement agencies,
· Other private investigative agencies/staff and organisations.
The investigative review is intended to collate, record and analyse what has gone before.
It is to examine the case and seek to determine, (as if the abduction occurred in the UK) what additional, new investigative approaches we would take and which can assist the Portuguese authorities in progressing the matter. Whilst ordinarily a review has no investigative remit whatsoever- the scale and extent of this enquiry cannot permit for such an approach. It will take too long to progress to any “action stage” if activity is given wholly and solely to a review process.
The ‘investigative review’ will be conducted with transparency, openness and thoroughness.
The work will be overseen through the Gold Group management structure, which will also manage the central relationships with other key stakeholders and provide continuing oversight and direction to the investigative remit.

So would it not seem that it's only an investigation of the investigation. Not an investigation into what happened to Madeleine. Doesn't seem much point.

What does the bit above mean? 'Ordinarily a review has no investigative remit whatsoever', l understand - 'the scale of this enquiry cannot permit for such an approach' sounds like a 'But' and that they will be investigating to some extent. BECAUSE if they don't it will take too long to progress to any action stage.....
So they ARE investigating is how l read it and not just reviewing....

2 years looking into stranger abduction seems a fair time in regards of balance...now can we have 2 months of hauling the tapas & Mccanns into Belgravia HQ so we can finally get this blight of injustice of the United Kingdoms books...we must be the laughing stock of the world at the moment...
You could drive a bus through the inconsistincies from the statements from those involved

It is understood that the Portuguese Authorities retain the lead so exactly where can this investigation go without the 'approval' of the Portuguese?
The Sy 'review' as best we know is just a paper exercise so any pro active work one would assume continues to rest with the Portuguese.
The Pj have already filed their opinions of what happened and i doubt they will be changing their views based on another country's police force who as best we know haven't even interviewed the suspects.
2 years is quite long enough to suggest a proper reconstruction of events i would have thought.

said it when dc ordered the review -- it was to shut the mcanns up once and for all -- stop the begging bowls flowing over -- why should portugal reopen this case unless there is any chance of a conviction --they have been rubbished by the mcanns our press and unless there can be a outcome imo they are just talking to sy and trying to move forward if they can -- also anything other than re interviewing the tapas mcanns and anyone close to madeleine -- would be a white wash
