I love the reference to Pam Gurney as Mrs Trolley - I'd forgotten that a gurney is a type of trolley; Pammy clearly fell off hers a long time ago.

Thank you. I consider myself to be a plain-speaking person. I couldn't do wordy like Blacksmith, even if I wanted to. I'm the working-class kid that got told off at my posh senior secondary (Scottish equivalent of grammar school) for using words like "lavatory," instead of "toilet" and "ginger" instead of "lemonade." I speak simply and I write simply because I'm happy these days to be a working-class pleb! I'm really touched by the number of people who have praised this recent blog post, telling me that you don't have to be "wordy" to say something that's sensible!
