Kate went back to the flat?
Hi Guys!
I don't know if you remember me, didn't post since a long time.. Anyway, I'm still reading all of you guys, every day, and was excited about the last developement.. (not so much for right now.. Anyway..).
I was reading comments from an article (Huffington post) and found that two comments:
«When they first left the room that night- the mother went back immediately for something, (think a sweater) and told her hubby to wait for her.»
«I found it suspicious as well because when the story first came out in the interviews with the parents they made a point more then once to say that her husband had started to go in with her and she "told him to wait outside" »
Is this true? Is somebody as ever read that somewhere? Never heard about that before, so I was wondering..!
Anyway, I wish for the best! Interesting stuff has happened last weeks, will see...
Take care!

Hi Marianne from Quebec ....... that's kudos for this Forum
Like many Press reports what is printed is not strictly accurate so I wouldn't read too much into this report. I think the Portugese will be very annoyed woth Scotland Yard for releasing the information with the resultant Press coverage. Don't be surprised if the case is not reopened on such flimsy evidence.

Same here. I also vaguely remember in the very early days a reporter saying on a tv news bulletin that the father of the child was seen at the back of the apartment near the shutters. I always know when I haven't imagined something because I can always remember the effect things have on me. I was very upset and concerned to hear a child had gone missing and felt terrible for the parents too, but when I heard that snippet, I though 'Oh right... I see... perhaps there's more to this story than we're being told'.

I remember that too. I seem to recall that Jeremy Wilkins said that when he walked towards the apartment, Gerry was by the shutters. That was when I began to wonder if part of the plan was that Gerry tampered with the shutters, but JW scuppered that when he came along. Kate didn't get the message and went into her role "Madeleine's gone" and then they had to revise the plan, hence taking about 40 minutes for the police to be called.

I remember that bit about the shutters too. I've always thought that JW turned up when he wasn't supposed to and scuppered the plan.

The timelines they wrote out on the covers of Madeleine's book read more like a script than a report because it's written in the present tense.
Re: Kate went back to the flat?
I agree I remember the comment that G was by the shutters. Does anyone remember a plea for assistance from G McC so they could stay in Portugal?

Re: Kate went back to the flat?
I don't remember this story at all. I don't think that there is any reference to Kate going back to the apartment as they were leaving in any of the witness statments, so perhaps it was from an interview.
I believe that it was Jane, not Gerry, that Jez saw by the shutters at around 8:30 pm.
Jez claims to have seen Gerry walking toward the tapas restaurant and assuming that he had just conducted a check based on his route.
From Jez's statement: "When I left the street, I remember seeing Gerry on the other side of the same. I believe that there was some speculation in the press regarding the circumstances of this encounter. I remember that I crossed the street to talk to Gerry. According to what I remember, Gerry was walking when I spotted him. As I mentioned previously, I assumed that he had gone to check on the children and was headed back to the Tapas Bar."
No mention of shutters, but the implication is that Gerry was coming from the front of the building and not the side gate and patio doors. For Jez to have seen Gerry walking, he must have been further up the road then their eventual meeting point, directly in front of the side gate. Had Gerry exited the patio doors, Jez would have seen him coming down the stairs and/or exiting the side gate, not walking down the road.

Hi Tanzi
The only plea for assistance that I remember, was from Kate McCann's Uncle Brian (Kennedy) and it was shortly before the McCanns returned from PDL. He asked the public for donations, to help pay for his niece and her husband's living expenses in Portugal and their bills that were mounting up in their Rothley home.
Kennedy had a nerve asking the public to donate money, which would help pay for the McCanns PDL expenses and bills in their UK home. The terms of the fund stated that the McCanns could already use the fund money, which the public had already contributed to, thinking that the money would be used to search for Madeleine.

Re: Kate went back to the flat?
Had this been a genuine abduction in those circumstances i dont think many would object to family support
This crime? of an under 5 being taken from a holiday dwelling has never happened before or after the 3rd of May 2007

Ceop are asking for more ads to reintroduce stranger danger in the UK as the abductions in UK for the past few years have been committed by strangers.
How many abductions have been in the UK ?
And I thought most off the abductions committed in this country was by family members.

Re: Kate went back to the flat?
I find it hard to take any proclamations from CEOP seriously.
What abductions have there been of children in the UK - let's say within the last 10 years - by someone who was completely unknown to them?
Matthew, there was one terrible case back in 1985 when a 3 year old was genuinely abducted from a holiday location.

The media was as far as I recall unanimous in its condemnation of the mother who had left her daughter alone while she went out drinking. I seemed to be the only person who felt sorry for her. I certainly would have no problem in sympathising with the McCanns if their story was believable, they had co-operated with the police and behaved decently ever since.
Setting up a commercial enterprise to raise money to pay the mortgage, being unable to hide their hilarity at times about how funny this all is to them and trying to silence anyone who doesn't believe their lies is not the way to convince anyone that they are innocent.

I think people know all about stranger danger, what they seem not to know is that their children are more at risk from people that they know than people they don't. when will this be advertised. we were told when children not to go with anyone unless they were with my mother or father.

Re: Kate went back to the flat?
"Stranger-danger" was launched in the 80th when I was in England. A colleague of mine, was unexpectedly asked by one of her friend if she could collect her son from the school because she had something unforeseen. My colleague, who knew the child, a about 8 years od boy, came to the school and said the boy, who was waiting outside, that his mother want him to go home with her.But the boy, immediately, jumped on the embankment shouting very loud :"Stanger-Danger"! My colleague was very embarrassed. She had to argue for a quater of an hour with the child till he accepted to follow her.
I found that funny and in the same time worrying because I wondered how many children were terrorized and conditioned in a negative way by this slogan.
