With his bright blue eyes and roguish good looks, Ronan Farrow never much resembled his father, Woody Allen, the hangdog film director and humorist.

Now his mother, Mia Farrow, has explained that there may be a very good reason: the 25-year-old human rights activist could in fact be the son of Ol' Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra.

Responding to years of speculation, the actress, 68, acknowledged her son was "possibly" fathered by the rat-pack star, from whom she "never really split up" after their divorce in 1968.

Sinatra's daughter, Nancy, confirmed to the magazine Vanity Fair that Mr Farrow was treated as a member of her family. "He is a big part of us, and we are blessed to have him in our lives," she said.

Making light of the disclosures, Mr Farrow said on Twitter: "Listen, we're all possibly Frank Sinatra's son".


His mother married Sinatra, who was 29 years her senior, in Las Vegas in 1966. However he demanded a divorce two years later while she was filming Rosemary's Baby, the acclaimed thriller.

Farrow later embarked on a 12-year relationship with Allen, while also starring in a string of his films, in the 1980s. However, the couple was never married and they lived in separate homes.

Any confirmation that he is not related to Allen is likely to be welcomed by Mr Farrow. The Yale University graduate and former youth adviser to Hillary Clinton at the State Department has repeatedly criticised his supposed father in recent years.

The Oscar-winning director separated from Mr Farrow's mother in 1992 after having an affair with Soon-Yi Previn, one of the actress's adopted daughters, who was then 22.

Farrow notoriously learned of the affair by discovering Allen possessed nude photographs of Ms Previn – a development the director described as "one of the great pieces of luck in my life".

The Farrows have never forgiven Allen, now 77, who has been married to Ms Previn, now 42, since 1997 and has two adopted daughters with her.

"Happy father's day – or as they call it in my family, happy brother-in-law's day," Mr Farrow said on Twitter in June last year. He has described Allen's actions as "a moral transgression".

Named Satchel Ronan O'Sullivan Farrow when he was born in 1987, Mr Farrow was presumed to be the sole biological child of Allen and Farrow, who were together from 1980.

The couple also adopted two children together. In all, Farrow has four biological children and nine adopted children. Two other adopted children have died.

The article, based on interviews with Farrow and several of her children, opened several old family wounds.

Dylan Farrow, Allen and Farrow's adopted daughter, used it to revive allegations that she was sexually molested by Allen as a young girl.

"I was seven," she said. "I was doing it because I was scared. I wanted it to stop." She assumed "this was how fathers treated their daughters," she said. "This was normal interaction, and I was not normal for feeling uncomfortable about it." Following an investigation by child services officials, no charges were brought against Allen. His lawyer said that he continued to deny the allegations.

Dylan Farrow added that Allen had attempted to contact her twice, but that she refused to have any contact with him or even to say his name. "I'm scared of him, his image," she said.

Fletcher Previn, another of Farrow's sons, said he had Photoshopped Allen out of every family photograph and edited him out of family videos, so that they would never have to see him again.

Meanwhile André Previn, Mia Farrow's husband between 1970 and 1979, said of Soon-Yi Previn, his adopted daughter and Allen's wife: "She does not exist."

I've always thought of Mia Farrow as what I call a "look at me" personality. She seems to be very unstable to me, adopting children (many with disabilities) to boost her image. I get the impression that she regards them all as her babies - she needs to feel needed.
 
Her behaviour when she discovered that Woody Allen was involved with one of her adopted daughters was typical of the "hell hath no fury....." syndrome. She couldn't accuse him of child abuse because the daughter wasn't unwilling or underage so, in my opinion, she made up a story that he was molesting another daughter (who was only 7 at the time) and Ronan, who may or may not be his natural son.
 
Woody is I think lucky to be shot of all of them, other than the one he's married to.

Morning NBY I always thought Mia looked vulnerable , bit of an oddball but 3 Guys married her so she must have been good at something. Woody allen Is very talented but never in a million years would you fancy him. 

She was only married to Frank Sinatra and Andre Previn. I don't know if her own father was absent from her life but it does seem to me that, by picking older partners, she was looking for a father figure.

I remember reading an interview with her at the time of the alleged abuse charges. That's when I got the impression that her children were all her babies - there was for example a reference to giving them their pocket money; the eldest were in their early twenties!

He's also very much like Mia when she was younger.

I wonder if Ronan will agree to a DNA test - if Woody Allen is not his father, I think that he would be delighted.

He does doesn't he wjk, is Frank still alive , I wasn't one for having crushes , but I did on Frankie and never forgave Ava Gardner for leaving him

He's not ugly so he can't be Woody Allens.

1998????? as long ago as that. !!!!!! He was married to a Barbara I remember. I saw a Documentary a while ago about the "Rat Pack" and surprisingly Dean Martin was supposedly the most faithful , Frankie was married 4 times.

I'd need me beer goggles on to sleep with Woody Allen .

I think he looks very much like Ol Blue Eyes, my idol when i was in my teens. I hated Ava Garner for leaving him.

If ever someone was wanted to play the part of Frank Sinatra when he was young, here's your man. He does remind me of his mother when she was young too.

Looks like a recent nose job, and a trout pout, so a bit synthetic looking.
