Madeleine McCann Inquiry 'Making Progress'Madeleine's father, Gerry, says he hopes the inquiry will "fill in pieces of the jigsaw" and help them discover what happened.3:04pm UK, Monday 07 October 2013 Madeleine McCann, aged three, went missing in Portugal in May 2007
As the search for his daughter continues, Gerry McCann calls for independent regulation of the press to protect ordinary people.

Enlarge EmailGerry McCann says he is pleased with the progress being made in Scotland Yard's review of the search for his missing daughter.

He told Sky News he and his wife Kate were "very pleased with the work of the Metropolitan Police both during the review process and now that they have moved into an investigatory phrase.

"I think that is all that any parent would want when their child is missing.

"They've uncovered new evidence and we hope that the appeals that go out next week will lead to further new evidence that helps fill in pieces of the jigsaw and moves at least a step closer to finding Madeleine and those responsible."

The disappearance of Madeleine will be the subject of a Crimewatch appeal next Monday.

Scotland Yard assistant commissioner Mark Rowley said it is hoped it will produce new witnesses, but a conclusion to the case "is not imminent".

A reconstruction of the "latest, most detailed understanding" of the events around the time Madeleine went missing will be shown on BBC Crimewatch.

It comes after the Metropolitan Police revealed a vast log of mobile phone traffic could be the key to finding out what happened to the-then three-year-old.

Scotland Yard detectives have interviewed 442 people as part of their review-turned-investigation into Madeleine's disappearance. It has identified 41 people of interest, including 15 UK nationals.

They hope to track down as many people present in Praia da Luz, Portugal, on or around May 3, 2007, as possible.

Dr McCann, speaking outside the General Medical Council (GMC) in London, also said the press needed tougher, independent regulation in order to protect the lives of ordinary people.

He talked about need for speedy arbitration for victims of press intrusion and misreporting, in the light of the Leveson Inquiry, at which he gave evidence.

He said "Ordinary peoples lives are being damaged every day of the week by press intrusion, by lies being printed or exaggeration."

It "personally troubles him and his wife" that "stories are published with no regard to Madeleine's safety, to the investigation itself or whether they will be putting Madeleine or others in danger or alerting those responsible".

He highlighted the need for an independent body that could act quickly saying: "We have absolutely no confidence that the press barons can regulate themselves."

"Press Intrusion"........that's rich coming from Gerry when he has been quite happy to have Madeleine publicised for over 6 years , his PR Mentor providing the news.!!!!!!!

Read the timelines on the left of the page , the Portugese Police admitted in June 2007 that Madeleine could be dead.

As I said on another thread, my betting is clarrie was told to put out these stupid articles for the press to print to take the heat off the trial, too bad people are commenting on them and know what the mccanns are up to .

I just added a sentence to the thread Kitti, read the timelines, quite interesting.! yes , I agree, this has been a blitz by the Press, Gerry biting the hand that feeds him.!!! I was only thinking the other day....don't laugh.Sky News Latest Report 25346

1. If Amaral Wins he can claim for much more than the E1.2 million the McCanns demanded because of the effect on HIS family.

2. The injunction robbed his Publisher of being able to sell his book for almost 18 months until it was lifted resulting in loss of Royalties from sales.

3. The pressure and villification by the UK Press and the McCanns resulted his own ill health

Mr amaral WON'T sue the mccanns, he's too much off a gentleman to do that and Also, he has seen what this can do to a family.

Mr amaral will get his costs back plus previous costs, that's all he wants plus he wants HIS reputation back, which he will.

His book will become more popular than before and it will go back on shelves and it will be published in English .

Now whether the mccanns will try to ban it in the UK, well firstly, will amazon put it back on the shelf, it may be deemed not defamatory In the rest off the world but the UK have no balls and are scared off the gruesome twosomes, will anyone take the risk.

Lets face it, you can read it online AT THE MOMENT in English, my feeling is, the mccanns are hoping to win to get it whooshed from the Internet PERMANENTLY.....alot riding on the libel case.

I think Amaral will claim damages and probably donate the money to a Portugese Missing Children Organisation. Yes, the Book will sell in thousands in English and the McCanns cannot at this stage say it is hindering the search for Madeleine. Judging by the Trial so far, the "Witness" statements are farcical and the Judge is quite astute. Don't you think this blitz in the Press and Redwood's comments will prove conclusively that Amaral's book has not hindered the search for Madeleine????
