The Klaas case
A truly dreadful case - and thankfully rare - of a child being abducted from her home.
A foundation was set up to help other people.

Re: Mark Klass
This was horrible. We lived not too far from this area when the abduction happened. My brother went to school up there. When they found her body - under a sheet of plywood by the side of the road, it was horrible news. And the person who had her had her for a day or so before he killed her. But with a 12 year old, she could have identified him which I guess was his reason to murder her BUT all her friends also saw the guy - so that did not work out for him. I don't recall if he got life or the chair - Calif has the DP.
Mark Klaas did what an innocent panicked parent WILL DO; he didn't sit around complaining that the police weren't bringing him tea and buns. He cooperated to the full extent and although very unlucky and terrible outcome, at least he knows what happened to his daughter and so does everyone else. The police time wasn't wasted nor was their reputation dragged through the mud. And he went on to actually help others, with his foundation, Very different to the McCann case.

Yes, Mark Klaas did everything an innocent parent would do. Realizing the importance of ruling out the immediate family as soon as possible, he took and passed the polygraph administered by law enforcement. He fully co-operated by answering all questions put to him, unlike Madeleine's parents. I don't recall Gerry McCann met with him for advice when he made that highly publicized visit to the U.S. shortly after Madeleine went "missing". I doubt very much Mark Klaas would have given Gerry McCann the time of day.
