Keep british troops in Germany
Good evening Panda
Has Dannat got any idea at all of how many troops Russia can field? At the height of the cold war. A study was made and concluded that as long as it did not go nuclear any armed confrontation could hold the Russkis up for almost a week. Not stop them mind, just inconvenience them a little.
Three things have changed since then.
a) The Americans led by Obama have stated that we can't depend on them any more.
b) Our armed forces have been cut to the bone and I doubt if we have 3,000 reserves left.
c) The Russkis themselves, or at least some of them have combat experience in Afghanistan mostly but also in Abkhazia, and Chechnya.
He is talking from the back of his generals hat. Apart from any other consideration The west has mouthed threats if Putin does this or that, and not then proved up on those threats. he is no longer going to listen unless and until the shooting war starts. Since we know that isn't going to happen it's his ball game. I don't know what he intends to do about the Ukraine, but whatever it is, he will go ahead while we continue to mouth meaningless threats. A few rich people in Russia may be affected. Our own economy, together with any recovery claimed by Osborne may suffer much more.

Re: Keep British Troops in Germany says Lord Danatt.
Morning katertaif,
Havn't we lost the lives of too many of our young Soldiers in foreign Countries and achieved nothing???? Cuts have been made , territorials considered if the need arises.....can you believe it!!! The EU will not do much except sabre rattling because Russia supplies their Gas . I just reported $70 million taken out of Russian Banks , that will do more damage than any armed conflict and may just stop Putin having ideas about invading Ukraine. When they took over Crimea, a lot of expensive equipment, Planes, ships etc belonging to Ukraine were left behind....will they be returned to Ukraine?
