COPS suspect the beast who snatched Madeleine McCann preyed on another 18 British kids
Among them was a girl aged ten abused streets from where Maddie vanished.
The attack took place in the heart of the Algarve's Praia da Luz resort in 2005 but the family only came forward recently.
Other cases were reported to local officers at the time - giving Scotland Yard hope that crucial forensic evidence may be gathering dust on police shelves in Portugal. Detectives were last night closing in on their first arrests since the investigation reopened.
Portuguese authorities could give the go ahead in days after months of legal wrangling.
The 18 linked cases all involve intruders approaching UK children in the West Algarve between 2004 and 2010. Of those, nine were sexual assaults on girls aged six to 12.
Det Chief Insp Andy Redwood said his team received around 500 calls after a new appeal last month.
Maddie went missing aged three in 2007. A spokesman for her family said they "fervently" believe she is still alive.

Madeleine failure
MADELEINE McCann vanished seven years ago, and every day since her parents have been through hell.
They must have mixed feelings about the latest development.
It's clearly helpful that Scotland Yard now has 18 potentially linked incidents to look into.
But if such promising leads can be found so many years later, the McCanns must wonder how different things might have been if the Portuguese police had done their job properly at the time.
We are all wondering the same.

Abused in 2005 but the family have only just come forward. Gets more ludicrous by the day.

Me too tanzi , these are experienced Officers so why con Cameron that an investigation would show what happened to Madeleine. SY can't blame the Portugese because all the information they are using came from the Portugese files.....what is it that they are looking for??? What convinced the Portugese Judiciary that the case be re-opened?

I'm sure Kate would object to her husband being referred to in such a strong manner

"The 18 linked cases all involve intruders approaching UK children in the West Algarve between 2004 and 2010. Of those, nine were sexual assaults on girls aged six to 12."
This is getting more ridiculous by the day! Who has proven that all of these cases are linked and how can they possibly be linked to Madeleine's disappearance? None of these cases bear any resemblence to Madeleine's disappearance. Three years old is quite a bit different from six and twelve years old. Also, the fact that Madeleine is the only one of the 19 children to have disappeared, shows that her case has no link to the others.
It is shameful that SY is squandering all of this taxpayer money on a wild goose chase. They have chosen one possible theory for a 3-year-old's disappearance, which has not one bit of evidence to support it, and is statistically less than 1% likely to have occurred, and have placed all of their bets on this single theory. The fact remains that the McCanns themselves are still the only true suspects in this case.
