Re: Police presence and what it tells us Blacksmith Bureau 8th May
Blacksmith's agenda has always been to ridicule anything which suggests that the McCs are in some way being protected. Thus for him there is only either the McC 'search' or the PJ/SY 'real investigation'. Unfortunately he fails to address the seamless transition of the so-called "Maddie cops" from being McC private 'investigators' of the Edgar type to being real albeit rubbish-spouting bumbling SY detectives, assistant commissioners and even commissioners. In other words, he employs the very tactics that SY have employed since their review/investigation commenced - ignore the obvious and bang on and on and on about things which are irrelevant. It's as though Blacksmith were part of an overall scheme to reinforce SY credibility by continually writing articles that assume the SY investigation to be bona fide. I see no evidence to support such a view whereas there are plenty of indicators to suggest that this is going to play out as a political solution "body found, DNA traces of dead 'paedo' found on it - McCs heartbroken but exonerated."

I would agree with you there T4two, as I said on the sky channel, if they find evidence of madeleine's remains in the search , how will they know who buried her.?

Find DNA of a dead paedo on it - simples. You don't actually have to find anything - just announce that you have. As long as the political will on both sides is in agreement - case closed.

What, you are saying that the PJ and SY would go that far to protect the McCanns??? SY would but the PJ would take great delight in asking the McCanns for a DNA sample .

Because if they find a body a DNA sample may match to DNA kept on a police database hopefully.
Do you recall a case where a young lady of 17 was found dead in a churchyard in Sutton Coldfield one New Year Eve? The work done to find the killer was extensive - they had DNA from her body but no hit on the police database. So, they swabbed all men within a 5 mile radius of her murder - nothing. Appeal after appeal went out for witnesses to come forward - nothing. The radius was then widened - nothing.
The break through came out of the blue around 5 years later when a man, not from the area at all in fact, committed a driving offence. He might have got off with a caution but he was an arse. He was abusive to police. So they arrested him and, as is usual now with anyone arrested, his DNA was taken for the record, and the rest is history because it caused a hit on the system with the DNA found on her body.
And the fact that police do keep a database of DNA from anyone arrested is such a positive thing because the guy in the case above would simply have been done for speeding and spent a night in the cells to cool off if this had happened 20 years ago.
Even if the police in Portugal find clothing unearthed or bedding etc it could prove to be enormous. Its not just bodies that yield DNA.
It is to be hoped that Portugal have an extensive database of DNA?

Panda - correct me if I am wrong on this, but it is not the PJ who decides these things but 'political' appointees such as Attorney Generals and suchlike.

WITH their 'duty
26 'meetings' to date?
THAT'S a LOT of 'duty frees' brought back, innit?
Probably explains why the 'elites' take so many 'wheelie suitcases' every time they go to Portugal!
Plebs going 'abroad' to France, to stock up, that MANY times, in such a short period of time, (only 1 year Deadwood's been 'meeting' his mates in Portugal) would have had their 'collar felt' by customs, PDQ!

T4two, I am not sure but do remember in the case of Madeleine the Portugese Prosecutor asked a Judge if there was sufficient evidence to go to Trial and the Judge said "show me the body". If sadly, they discover a skeleton and take DNA samples , didn't the FSS say they disposed of all the samples sent to them because Portugal did not ask for them. I know the Portugese Forensics sent some samples to Spain for analysis so let,s hope the Portugese have kept them.

How have you heard this kitti? I bought the Daily Star this morning , only because they had the photo of Madeleine on the front page LOL.
Anyway, their article on page 5 was quite brief, two of the SY guys out of the 6 are DNA experts, the other 4 , including Redwood maybe went because they thought the Portugese would change their mind about searching homes etc.

O.K. Thanks dazedandconfused, judging by the sharp exit the SY team made, they won't be going back to PDL for a while. The cost for this little excercise must be over. £1,000 and for what???? Taking liberties aren't they

I don't find it strange in the least. First the aerial photographs and a full level meeting between detectives from each side to communicate to each other the next step and to start the red rape process leading up to a dig. Why should British detectives stay out there? It would not be an overnight job this analysis, so no reason to go to the expense of putting up detectives in hotels just to sit around and wait.

As I said on another thread , when it was agreed that this investigation would be made , why wasn't a schedule prepared then, so instead of SY going home for the week-end , the only two of the 6 are obviously the Radar experts and Photographers , the DNA experts would not be required until something was found.

How do you know they've gone home for the weekend? Back on Monday are they? How do you know a schedule has not been prepared? What DNA experts were there?
I doubt very much that SY just come and go to Portugal without invitation and prior authority to do so. I doubt that SY can investigate a crime that happened in Portugal without visiting Portugal. I doubt they can attend a meeting with their Portuguese counterparts at a Portuguese Police Station without prior authority to do so. People have to be available to attend meetings so it has to be mutually agreed beforehand, to avoid officers being otherwise unavailable due to attending court on other cases for example.
Someone mentioned Google Earth so no need for expense of aerial photographs, helicopters etc. Unless the proper authorities take these photographs so that they can be dated and disclosed as exhibits, it would never stand up in any Court of Law for one thing. I said yesterday, it is all about continuity.
The system is the system.

I just quoted that the BBC news website had an article saying SY detectives had returned to the UK. As far as I recall, it didn't say they were just taking a weekend break.
