It's a great tragedy, Iris, and I think that's an appropriate word. I was really upset when the news first broke about the fire. I have often walked from the top of the High Street, past Provands Lordship and down past the Art School. A great part of the City's heritage. So sad.

I've just found what looks like good news on the STV web site.
Around 9pm, the Fire Service announced that "the majority" of the building's contents had been saved from destruction.
A statement read: "Firefighters battling the blaze at the iconic Macintosh Building in Glasgow City Centre have prevented the destruction of both the structure and the majority of its contents.
"Scottish Fire and Rescue Service crews are continuing work to fully extinguish the fire and save artworks.
"With the incident under control indications are the firefighters' efforts have ensured more than 90% of the structure is viable and protected up to 70% of the contents - including many students' work."

It's brilliant news and on Sky News I read that some now famous ex-students are saying they'll contribute to restoring the building. Fingers crossed that that beautiful building can be restored.

Great work by the Fire service again to save much of the building and contents.

Fire crews from several areas of the city were there within 4 minutes of the alarm being raised and it's reckoned they have saved most of the building. Great work indeed.
