Parents set to testify at Trial
Parents set to testify at £1m libel trial
by MARC WALKER
Friday, June 13, 2014
MADELEINE McCann's parents will speak at the libel trial of a disgraced Portuguese detective.
Goncalo Amaral wrote a book claiming the couple faked the abduction to cover up her death.
Kate, 46, and Gerry, 45, of Rothley, Leics, have been told they will be allowed to address the court after appealing against an earlier decision to deny them a say.
Amaral's allegations left Kate considering taking her own life.
Last night doctors Kate and Gerry were said to be "moving mountains" to get to the Lisbon courthouse for Monday, when they are due to testify.
Their lawyer Isabel Duarte said: "I'm hopeful both of them will be able to make it."
They are suing Amaral, 57, after winning an injunction to have his book removed from shop shelves. Scotland Yard officers were expected to return to London last night after scouring scrubland near Praia da Luz, where Madeleine vanished.
But local business owners may sue the force, claiming the probe hit tourism in the holiday hotspot.

More fun with the Tapas Nine on their latest holiday!
They were snapped on their way back from sampling some Vimto Daiquiris and plates of mash with sausages sticking out the top, when who should they spy but a really smelly binman.
"Oi, Mr Copper! It was 'im wot done it!", they shouted at a startled Portuguese officer as they pointed ... err ...pointedly at the hapless
Then they all skipped back to their tent for lashings of Tizer Martinis and Brighton rock as their best pal Father HH gave a rousing chorus of 'Nearer My Plod to Thee!"

Hi Kitti
I saw this on another forum. However while the ban on Goncalo Amaral's book was eventually overturned, the McCanns have still won, because the last time I tried to buy his book, via Amazon UK, it wasn't for sale. I tried Amazon.com USA and they weren't selling it.
Not too long ago, a Portuguese born Facebook friend of mine, who now lives in Canada, ask her Portuguese friend who lives in Portugal, if she could get her a copy of Goncalo Amaral's book, 'The Truth of the Lie'. Her friend who lives in the Lisbon Area, tried several high street book stores and she was told, once the book was removed from the shelves, they never bothered re-stocking it.
After scouring the net, I eventually found a Portuguese online book store that sold Goncalo Amaral's book, even in English, they are also selling Kate McCann's book. I discovered that this company also had High St book stores, I emailed them and asked them why their high street book stores were not selling Goncalo Amaral's book and I was told that the high street stores were franchised and it was up to them if they sold his book.
It appears that it isn't just the Portuguese Authority who have turned their backs on Goncalo Amaral.

I've just had a look on Amazon.co.uk and Goncalo Amaral's book, written in Italian can be bought for...wait for it...£999.00.

Thanks Annabel......I only got half way through....will read the rest later. This little observation by Amaral caughtt my eye.....it's true.
The search areas are huge, yet you see them hanging around, searching and digging, mostly by the police lines – as close as possible to the media and TV cameras, (as if to facilitate the Media – the filming and reporting)."

tanzi I am very surprised at the Portugese Government for not taking some kind of action. Can you possibly believe the British Government, or any Government in the World would allow another Country to take over an investigation on a 7yr old case.???

Re: Parents set to testify at Trial
After reading yesterday that Amaral arrived through the front entrance for the book trial but the Macs were escorted through the court leads me to believe he does not stand a chance on Monday.

That's probably more to do with the fact that people throw flowers at Amaral, yet there is a huge risk of many eggs being thrown at the Mc's........

Hi duncanmac, I would like to know why the Trial was suspended for 6 months, only to learn that the McCanns will have their day in Court when it was denied them oriiginally. Now that SY have kindly spent taxpayers money proving Madeleiine was not buried so she can presume to be still alive will their work end when the Trial is over ???

Hi Wantthetruth
I don't believe the McCanns were allowed to enter the court through the same door as the Judge, because there was a risk to their safety. No one tried to attack them when they left the court. In fact they were stood there when Goncalo Amaral, received flowers.
I honestly believe, that the McCanns knew beforehand what decision that Judge was going to make, hence them being able to enter the court through the same door as her. However I'm not saying I'm right, I'm only saying what I believe.
What I will say is, along with many others, I followed the case live on Sky News Internet. Some of the stuff that was said on the witness stand, made me believe that the McCanns were going to lose this case. Especially when a former senior PJ investigator, told the Judge of the interference of the British Government.
I was shocked, when I found out that the Judge had made her decision in favour of the McCanns. She knew full well that Goncalo Amaral, was only stating what was written in the PJ files. She also knew that others had written books, that contained similar contents to Goncalo Amaral's book and she also knew that the McCanns had read Goncalo Amaral's book when it was first published and they never took out an injunction at that time. They waited until the book became a best seller and pounced.
I know everything turned out ok for Snr Amaral in the end, but the Judge should never have found in favour of the McCanns, in the beginning.
We just have to hope that the Judge who is providing over the lawsuit, finds in favour of Goncalo Amaral and the other defendants.

Hi Panda, it think what also needs to be asked is :
Why did SY appear to suddenly end the digging ?
Where did the trial date of 16th June suddenly reappear from after we were recently told that date had been cancelled ?

Re: Parents set to testify at Trial
So Dr Amaral entered through the front door like the gentleman that he is, and the McCanns came through the tradesmans' entrance.
I think it's generally accepted that the first judge was young and inexperienced, and her decision was flawed.
This latest judge seems a lot more experienced and street wise. She's already proved that she's not going to stand for any nonsense, from either side.
I think the McCanns might have finally met their match.

I do so hope you are right Iris, but for whatever reasons the Mccanns seem to be able to pull the strings of everyone in both countries. They have changed their stories often, they have lied, yet not once have they ever been pulled up over any of this. Why is that? I may be a pessimist right now but the great and mighty Mccanns seem to be able to control every justice system for their own satisfaction and greed. Whether we will ever know why I very much doubt, but this case has been a farce since day 1 and continues to be a farce, the farce now being carried out at the tax payers expense whilst the Mccanns continue to increase their bank balance.
