Apart from the government raising the threat level to severe there is a new worry. One I believe governments should have seen coming and at least discussed before now. - The establishment of Sharia areas.

Most of our big cities have them now with intimidation and naked violence used to enforce "their" laws. In London a student from Florida was beaten up for drinking a beer by young men wearing reflective jackets with sharia police on them. A town in Germany; Wuppertal now has the same problem and while the mayor is saying this will not be allowed they are seemingly at odds over how to deal with it and exactly how the law has been broken.

Schilderswijk in Holland is becoming known as the sharia triangle. Of course groups have been trying to establish no go areas and sharia areas for some considerable time. they have in the past been quickly broken up by the police. Now it seems from the reports that semi permanent ones are being established not only in Britain but across Europe.

the problem with our police is that during the blair/brown years they allowed themselves to become politicised and reinvented themselves as a service. they are not a service. they exist to both abide by and enforce the law. they should not allow themselves the luxury of considering in any way whom they may upset in pursuit of those responsibilities.

Up to a point yes. I do believe however it is over simplistic just to blame the police for not upholding the law. they don't make the law, our elected representatives do that and expect the police to operate within the framework they are given.

Having said that yes the police can be blamed for at least some of the situations we find ourselves in. They have got things wrong quite a few times in the last few years. Then again they are walking a fine line. Knowing that if they get it wrong they will be pilloried for it. That inevitably changes things.

One of the problems being that these days the police (and everyone else) operates in the full glare of the media

over simplistic? only to a bleeding heart liberal. We don't need new laws to deal with this kind of behaviour, we just need to enforce the ones we've had. for years.

First time I've ever been called a liberal bleeding heart or otherwise. All is clear now.
