George Osborne is going to (supposedly) going to crack down on rich people having council houses. If they're high earners, why are they in a council property in the first place?

I've just been reading that once you have a council property you are entitled to stay in it for life regardless of salary Crackdown On 'Rich' Council House Tenants 87849

Whilst I do not agree with throwing people out of their homes, I cannot believe that people earning £150,000 pa can have a council house because they've always lived there. Surely this should have been tackled by previous Gvts. They need to put up the rents of the rich tenants and put the money into helping those that can't afford to buy or rent.

Social housing (council houses) should be for those who cannot afford a mortgage in that area. For the likes of those who have grown up and prospered in a particular residence if may be unreasonable to kick them out of their childhood/family homes just because they now earn a good wage, like Bob Crow, now sadly dead.Far better to offer them the property at the market price and use that money to build more affordable/homes for rent.
