How is 'dining 50m away' different from Facebooking 10m away?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-humber-34491753
This woman has been sent to jail for neglecting her child who drowned in the ornamental pond in her back garden while she was in the house on Facebook. Ok, granted she'd already allowed her kids to almost get killed playing near the road unsupervised, and had been advised to cover the pond... but I really can't see how the McCanns weren't accused and found guilty of neglect when they left all three of their tiny babies for at least half an hour at a time (according to them) whilst they went out to socialise with their mates. I know I'm preaching to the converted, but the double standards here makes me so angry.

Just came on to post the very same thing. Double standards indeed, especially the part about mum of five with four different dads (or whatever it was).

'She told the police that she was inside her home at the time. She failed to supervise their play.
'She was in fact exchanging Facebook messages over the internet at the time she should have been supervising them.'
He said there was evidence she could not have been able to see the children in the garden from where she was stood in the house.
Surely her behaviour would be regarded by UK Social Services as "legally well within the bounds of responsible parenting"??

I presume the big difference is that this woman doesn´t have friends in the government and Clarence Mitchell wasn´t sent to her rescue.

She also didn't hide the body and then pretend the child had been abducted.
She admitted what had happened so I do have sympathy for her.

At least she took responsibility and didn't try to blame anyone else or make excuses.

I believe it's a class issue. From the moment the police (in both countries) discovered that this was a party of middle class professionals, they felt extremely wary about doing anything to suggest that they didn't believe them.

If she could afford the king of liars , she'd be an ambassador for one of the children's charity's by now, and not doing time in sing sing!
