Re: New Search by Parents - Mirror
Well that was to be expected.....and just before Christmas while generous people are in a giving mode to ramp up the Fund. "They have always said they'll do anything they can to keep going. That commitment remains." "The McCanns still feel there are a lot of questions that remain unanswered.......". Just off hand I can think of 48.

Madeleine McCann's parents to launch new private search with appeal fund's remaining £750k
Kate and Gerry McCann have set the money aside for another private search for their daughter with the £12million Scotland Yard operation set to wind down
Madeleine McCann’s parents are poised to launch a new private search for their daughter with the remaining £750,000 in their appeal fund.
Kate and Gerry, both 47, aim to begin a fresh initiative to solve the nine-year-old mystery as the £12million Scotland Yard investigation winds down.
Plans are under way to use what is left of the No Stone Unturned fund, boosted by sales of Kate’s book Madeleine, to hire private detectives to probe several unanswered questions.
A source told the Sunday People : “There is £750,000 in the account. That money has been preserved because Kate and Gerry knew they may want to reopen an investigation at some point.
“They have always said they’ll do anything they can to keep going. That commitment remains.”
The number of British officers working on the investigation , named Operation Grange, has been reduced from 29 to four.

The operation has cost £10million since it was launched four years ago following intervention from the Prime Minister.
A further £2million has been guaranteed by the Home Office until April.
The source added: “We don’t know exactly when Operation Grange will end but while it continues it has the finest technology and analysts.
“Private investigations are expensive and do not have anything like the range and capabilities available to the Yard.
“The McCanns still feel there are a lot of questions that remain unanswered but they still have full confidence in the Metropolitan Police .”
Madeleine disappeared from their holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007, shortly before her fourth birthday. Since then her parents have campaigned tirelessly.

Re: New Search by Parents - Mirror
The Daily Mail now has the story with a little more info. MET detectives have investigated 60 suspects, 650 paedophiles and almost 9,000 sightings since Madeleine "was abducted". 60 more people were considered "more serious subjects" but the "kidnapper" has not been found. So the Mail is back to abduction and kidnapping.
With 12 million of taxpayer money having been spent on the investigation, the McCanns are now prepared to fork over 750 thousand from the "Fund" to continue the "search". When that runs out, I wonder if they will be prepared to sell their house to continue searching. That should generate additional funds from the easily deceived supporters.

Madeleine McCann's parents to 'launch new privately funded search for daughter'

Madeleine McCann's parents are to launch a new privately funded search for their daughter, it has been reported.
Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, are understood to have approved a fresh initiative using some of the £750,000 that remains in their 'No Stone Unturned' appeal fund.
It is believed, reports the Sunday People, that the couple are to take the initiative following the decision by Scotland Yard to scale down the search for Madeleine.
The youngster disappeared from her parents' holiday apartment in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz in May 2007, shortly before her fourth birthday.
The fund was boosted by royalties from Kate's book, 'Madeleine', and the couple have always stated their determination to continue with the search.
In October Scotland Yard announced it was scaling down, Operation Grange, the Metropolitan Police investigation into Madeleine's disappearance.
The inquiry, which was launched in 2011, and has cost more than £10 million, will continue but will have the number of full time officers working on the case reduced from 29 to just four.
Detectives have taken more than 1,300 statements and have collected over a thousand exhibits, but a spokesman for Scotland Yard said while there remained some lines of inquiry to follow, the vast majority of Operation Grange's work had been completed.
Earlier this year the Home Office, which has been funding the police investigation, granted another £2 million to allow the work to continue.
Operation Grange was launched after the Portuguese authorities shelved their probe into her disappearance and the family was forced to coordinate and fund their own investigation.
Following the announcement that Scotland Yard's role was being significantly scaled back, the couple said they felt reassured that significant progress had been made and that they had a clearer picture of the events that led up to their daughter's abduction.

It has always been the McCanns' "brand" hasn't it....taking advantage of the season of goodwill/benevolence. But you are right about the British press, which is offensive to the sense of right or decency.

Just what I was thinking.
Take £750,000 or £1M and transfer it to a new search fund.
A short time later it has been spent.with as much muddying of the water as their other accounts and bingo, it's in another private account.
I seem to remember that the Leicester Mercury was bought out a short time ago.
