A beard too far

It has been reported that the Bishop of London is encouraging Anglican clergy to grow beards out of respect for Muslims. That in my opinion is a bridge too far. It has nothing to do with race, but culturally it is nonsense. I've no doubt that his intentions are kindly enough, but it sends the wrong signals out.

We are free in this country to grow a set, or not as we choose. That is our culture. What would be the difference if Muslim men were urged to shave out of respect for our culture?

besides which the growing of beards is cultural, and has nothing to do with Islam, given that is so, the good Bishop has his wires severely crossed.
