Sick Brit trolls pay £50k to Portuguese cop who accused Madeleine McCann's parents of lying about daughter’s abduction
A GoFundMe page was set up in April last year to help cop overturn the libel ruling
BRITISH trolls paid £50,000 to help a Portuguese cop overturn a ruling that he libelled Madeleine McCann’s parents.
Goncalo Amaral, 57, was ordered to pay Kate, 47, and Gerry, 48, half a million euros after accusing them of lying about Maddie’s abduction.
Then a GoFundMe page to support the broke police inspector was set up last April.
Founder Leanne Baulch, of Birmingham, quit after it was taken over by an anti-McCann “fan club”.
Tony Bennett, 67, of Harlow, Essex, who has clashed with the McCanns in court, was among the donors.
Others included Brigette Barnes, a supporter on pro-Amaral websites, and Marian Greaves, who wrote to a star asking him to put in £10,000. The fund shut after raising £52,000.
Amaral made a fortune from The Truth of the Lie, a 2008 book containing the claims, but his assets were frozen after his 2010 libel loss.
The McCanns, of Rothley, Leics, who deny his claims, planned to use the payout to help find Madeleine.
She vanished aged three in the Algarve in 2007.

Re: The latest from ANTONELLA LAZZERI in The Sun.
Many thanks "AnnaEsse" for the link - I wish the Sun had mentioned that people from all over the world contributed to the defense fund but at least British readers will be made aware (again) that a great many people support Mr. Amaral in his fight for justice for Madeleine. The last time the Sun had an article about the GoFundMe campaign my name was mentioned as one of the repulsive trolls who contributed. I hope people who read the Sun have access to the comments - by far the best part of the submission (by Clarence Mitchell, I assume).

There are some brilliant comments on that page. Every one of them is very negative about the McCanns.
Re: The latest from ANTONELLA LAZZERI in The Sun.
It also seems to be a total lie that a celebrity contributed £10K. The amount was collected from a number of celebrities. Is somebody a troll just because they don't believe the McCanns version of events. There must be a lot of trolls in the world. Seems as if less and less people are believing their so very implausible version of events. No wonder they don't want another opinion put forward.

Re: The latest from ANTONELLA LAZZERI in The Sun.
The comments are coming in fast and FURIOUS - I especially like the one, "Clarence is penning his book How the McCanns fooled me; that is why he is not available for comment." Also the reply to it: "I wouldn't be surprised...if there's more money in it for this odious creep he'll go ahead with it."

I thought those were good. Definitely.

If the McCanns were seething a few days ago they will be exploding when they see these comments.

My second reflection on the article - it's good hype for Mr. Amaral's book.

We are seeing a big change from the days when most newspapers pre-moderated comments and negative ones didn't get posted. On the Sun, there is no pre-moderation, so I am assuming that there have been no gushing comments supporting Kate and Gerry. I find it quite amusing thinking of the two of them seeing another article and knowing that the comments are not going to be complimentary.

One of the comments in the Sun (from mccannpjfiles) actually includes a direct link to the English translation of the official inquiry files. I'm surprised the Sun has allowed the link but delighted since "the" book will not be available for sale in the UK. Makes me wonder if the Sun is considering changing stance.

I read most of the 74 comments and have saved them all. No sign of a moderator.
I think the comments are gone now but you can see them over on Jill's forum. Many more people are now better informed than a year ago.

The comments were almost 100% critical of the McCanns and not moderated which seemed to be a big change.
Calls today on social media for the Sun to be shut down after the verdicts on the Hillsborough tragedy and what the Sun had written at the time, blaming the victims.
