Portuguese minister reveals: We didn't charge Maddie's parents out of compassion - Daily Star
"Madeleine McCann's parents escaped prosecution for leaving her in their holiday flat because of 'compassion' from prosecutors."
The equivalent of the UK's Home Secretary "told a Portuguese TV show it was an error not to make GP mum Kate, 48, and heart doctor dad Gerry, 47, suspects - or arguidos - for "abandonment."
The article of course is by Jerry Lawton and says "the McCanns are aware they could have been jailed if found guilty of abandonment".
Clearly if they had been Portuguese they would have been charged, at least, with abandonment. I think the reason they were not charged had more to do with political interference rather than Portuguese compassion - IMO.

Its not just in your opinion. Everyone thinks the same. There was so much political interference going on its a wonder Brown and Blair had time to do anything else.

Brown even thought kate and gerry are at least important as Lisbon treaty. Says it all.Keela wrote:interested wrote:"Madeleine McCann's parents escaped prosecution for leaving her in their holiday flat because of 'compassion' from prosecutors."

Brown stated on TV that any facts surrounding Madeleine's disappearance cannot be revealed as they would affect National Security... Although I can't find any links or quotes...

The reason they weren't charged is because the pj didn't want the lesser charge ...they knew being negligent was NOT an option.

The PJ have also added today that the British police have NOT asked for the three men to be interviewed and they were asked questions and their phones were checked and they were released without charge as it was proved that the three had NOTHING to do with the disappearance.
