Madeline McCann: Fresh cash lifeline in search for missing child
SCOTLAND Yard’s inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann from a holiday flat in Portgual in 2007 will continue until at least April after Home Office approval of new funding.

Financing for the four-strong team of officers working on Operation Grange was due to end in October.
But a fresh request, believed to be for a sum of around £100,000, was submitted to the Home Office as the deadline approached and has now been signed off.
A Whitehall source had indicated funding would be approved if “compelling evidence that justifies the use of additional taxpayers’ money” was provided by the team.
A spokesman for the Home Office said on Friday: “We have provided the Metropolitan Police with the funding required for Operation Grange to continue until at least the end of this financial year.
“The resources required will be reviewed again at this point.”
So far the inquiry into Madeleine’s disappearance from the apartment in Praia de Luz has cost £12million. At its height more than 30 officers were on the case.
Last month the "German Madeline McCann" was found 15 years after the girl's disappearance

You would think by now they would spell Madeleine's name correctly. Not sure this additional funding was approved "because" or "if" there is compelling new evidence. Hopefully we will know the result of the damages trial by April, which takes us right up to the tenth anniversary.

Body of a girl missing for 15 years — who bears striking resemblance to Madeleine McCann — found.

Nine-year-old Peggy Knobloch went missing 15 years ago never making it home from her German primary school.
THE body of a young German girl who went missing 15 years ago has been found by mushroom pickers, just 14 kilometres from where the little girl grew up.
Peggy Knobloch was nine years old when she went missing on May 7 2001, never making it home from her German primary school, with her disappearance sparking an international missing person’s search, reported The Sun.
Despite an intense search, the young girl was never found with parallels drawn between the young Bavarian girl and missing English girl Madeleine McCann.
German authorities were initially cautious to confirm that the body parts found over the weekend — just 14 kilometres from her home between Nordhalben and Rodacherbrunn — were those of little Peggy.
But according to Abendzeitung news, a Gera prosecutor announced that the remains were definitely those of Peggy.
The body was also found with personal items that matched hers. The young girl’s body and other items were found by a member of the public who was walking through the forest looking for mushrooms. After making the devastating discovery, they immediately notified police.More than 100 police officers then descended onto the scene to search for more clues.
It is understood the bones most likely surfaced after wild animals picked up the scent of the body and excavated it.
Further tests, including a radiological examination, are expected to shed further light around how the little girl died.
In 2002, a man with a learning disability was accused of killing the nine-year-old girl after allegedly sexually assaulting her. He told police he had sexually abused her then killed her when she went to tell on him.
The man was jailed for life in 2004, spending his time in an psychiatric hospital before he withdrew his confession.
He was released 10 years later when the conviction was overturned.
No one has since been charged with her disappearance.
The search for the young girl spread across her village, with authorities even using military planes in the extensive hunt for clues.
A line of inquiry took authorities to the Czech Republic and to Turkey in the belief she may have been kidnapped.
Her case sparked comparisons with Madeleine McCann who was just three when she went missing from a resort in Portugal in 2007 with reports of sightings of the toddler from around the world.
The two girls look startlingly similar with their blonde hair and wide eyes.
McCann has never been found.
Madeline - The Last Hope?
Is a new investigation, by a top unit of the Metropolitan Police, the last chance of discovering what happened to Madeleine McCann?

The German authorities it seems accepted the fact that wild animals are able to identify and utilise the smell of cadaverine to assist in their search for food. Mitchell's trashing of canine evidence continues to make a mockery of British justice even now, 9 years after the dogs presented the search with all the evidence required.

Just wondering if this compelling new evidence is fraud/fund related. If SY is to be funded until April that will give the McCanns the opportunity for an all out blitz for further donations for their (ahem) search to coincide with the tenth anniversary in May.

That is exactly what I am thinking. The 10th one will be the "biggie". Remember Soham 10 years on, well the Mccanns will make that look like small fry IMO.

The circus surrounding the McCanns from Day One has made everything else - particularly genuine cases like the Soham girls - look like small fry.
I hope that we find the truth about the case in our lifetimes.

I would like the Government to tell me what an additional £100,000 is going to find that the previous £12million didn't.

Perhaps peace and quiet from a pair of whinging, overrated child neglectors.

The people who have commented on The Sun article see the McCanns as suspects rather than the victims the U.K. press portray them to be.
