32 years after the murder of Gregory Villemin (4 years old), the insolved case is being solved.

An extraordinary rebound in the most famous murder of a child in France, "L'affaire Gregory". 32 years after the insolved murder, 5 people were yesterday questionned, 3 still in the police station. Suspicion of crime, prepared and commited by several personnes.All from the father of the child's family : great uncle and aunt, also the greatmother, sister in law, ( may be 2 other family members, now dead, involved). According to the General Prosecutor today, progress were made in the enquiry by graphological expertise and old testimonies cross-checked by a new crime software "Anacrim". Apparently the suspects refuse to speak (The right of silence).

IS THAT THE SAME CASE AS I READ SOMEWHERE 40 YEARS HAS PASSED OR IS THAT A DIFFERENT CASE.

It's the same,32 years ago. Today the great uncle and the grand aunt have been arrested for kidnapping and false imprisonment that have resulted in death.
The probleme being that they refuse to confess the crime and the proofs till now are thin ( graphological expertises on anonymous letters are clearly incriminating the aunt and also ...the great-mother). A sordid family story based on jealousy. But the police carry on diligences and may be it can set tongues wagging.

i read a book about this case only a few years after the event.

A very strange one and so was his family!

Last news : Muriel Bolle, who was15 years old when Gregory was killed, is now under arrest for kidnapping followed by death. She said, ( in 1984) one week after the crime, that Bernard Laroche ( a cousin of Jean-Marie Villemin, the father) ,who was married with her sister, took her in a car at the end of a school day, collected Gregory at a place along the road, stopped in a village ( where the aunt and uncle of Gregory's father lived), and came back alone in the car. The juge being in week-end, she was released by the police after her audition, returned home and the following monday, she said that her first testimony was wrong and that the policemen obliged her to confess wrong things. Laroche who had been arrested was released and shortly after shot dead by Gregory's father. Despite the fact that the bus driver of the school and Muriel's school friends said she was not in the bus that precise day, despite the fact that neighbours said that during the week-end Muriel B. went home, they heard shoutings an cries coming from Muriel Bolle's house, the (very incompetent) young juge) focused his interest on Gregory's mother who according to him was the culprit and arrested her.

BUT

Incredible twist some days ago: a cousin of Muriel Bolle , after so many years of silence , decided to testify : He was in the Muriel Bolle's family house the week-end Muriel Bolle returned home ( after her first testimony incriminating Bernard Laroche) and says he saw how Muriel Bolle was beaten by her family who made her recant her confession to the police.

The police are sure several members of the family commited together the crime by hatred and jalousy but,as none of the suspects speaks, is difficult to have enough material for a trial.
The great-uncle and aunt of Gregory, perviously arrested, have been released but are under strict police control, separated, and living in an unknown part of France. The juges estimated that there are not enough evidences for them to be kept in prison.

Another tragedy in this desastrous case: yesterday, the first and (in)famous juge Lambert, was found death in his flat. Apparently he commited suicide. He probably could'nt cope anymore with the resurgence of criticism toward him after the reopening of the case.This story is cursed.
Now, will that affect the ongoing enquiry? Difficult to say but probably the journalists will be more discreet and there will be no more leaks in the press.

I had been thinking what a complex case this is; but now with the judge's suicide added, I think your description of "cursed" is more appropriate.
