A 44-year-old mobile home resident agreed to go with police while they searched his home today.
http://tracypress.com/content/view/17706/2268/
Police this afternoon drove off with David Slayter, 44, after searching his home at space No. 43 in the mobile home park where an 8-year-old Tracy girl went missing exactly a week ago.
FBI agents and Tracy detectives pulled items from Slayter's home in the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park and packed them into a white crime-scene truck. They towed two of the Slayters cars as well. A caravan of at least seven trucks and detectives’ cars pulled into the neighborhood shortly before 2 p.m. today.
FBI Evidence Response Team members arrive at the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park as a search warrant is served for one of the residents homes. Glenn Moore/Tracy PressSlayter voluntarily got in a police car about 15 minutes after investigators arrived, said Tracy police spokesman Lt. Jeremy Watney, but police declined to disclose where they went to talk.
Slayter was identified through a newspaper photograph that shows him and his wife, Debra, in front of their home, and another photo of the couple at a candlelight vigil.
Slayter’s name also comes up in an Internet search with an inactive Web site called www.moneymansvault.com, which indicates he lives at 812 W. Clover Road, No. 43, in Tracy.

Father says he passed polygraph
http://tracypress.com/content/view/17705/2265/
Poster of the missing girl. Contributed. The father of missing 8-year-old Sandra Cantu said that he passed a polygraph test at the Tracy police department earlier today.
Police could not be reached for comment.
Daniel Cantu, a 37-year-old who lives in Mexico but works at a meat plant in the U.S. two hours east of San Diego, said that he will stay in the area as long as it takes to help find his daughter.
Since his arrival in Tracy on Sunday, he has voluntarily gone to the police station four times, and has been asked to go down to the station, police said.
Tracy police spokesman Jeremy Watney said Cantu was scheduled to voluntarily go into the station today to get the latest update from police about his daughter. When he’s there, Watney said, detectives would take the chance to ask him questions if they had any.
Cantu said that he has been passing out fliers and getting the word out however he can. His daughter Sandra Cantu, 8, disappeared March 27 from the Orchard Home Mobile Home Park Estates where she lives with her mother and other family. A massive search effort has so far turned up lots of leads, but no girl or arrests.
“We need to take the focus off of him and put it on (Sandra),” said Gina Schnabel, a friend of Cantu’s and a volunteer in the search.
Cantu said that he felt like he was treated more like a suspect by the media than like a parent looking for his child.
“They were talking wrong,” Cantu said. “People should have the right information before they talk.”
Schnabel said that she and Cantu have set up a Chase bank account where people can donate money that will go to the family after the girl is found. She said Cantu has raised $1,500 so far. The account number is 446-091-4679, a bank employee said, and the phone number for the bank is 836-1490.

Police Investigating Container Found In Tracy Pond
Tracy Police investigators searching for Sandra Cantu are responding to the discovery of a sealed container in Tracy this afternoon. The container was found at around 11:40 a.m. by farm workers in an irrigation pond located near Tracy Blvd. and Bacchetti Rd - a pond that searchers had already covered. The workers spotted the container while they were emptying the pond to irrigate a nearby field.
Investigators aren't saying whether or not they think the container holds Cantu, or evidence in her disappearance.
Police are calling an end to large-scale ground operations as the search for missing eight-year-old Sandra Cantu continues. After about 300 volunteers and law enforcement officers fanned out across an area of open fields Saturday, a police spokesman says investigators are now focusing on leads that have been coming in since Sandra disappeared.
Over the weekend, Sandra's mother, Maria Chavez told CBS13 that she thinks Sandra did not run away. "I think somebody took her. She wouldn't walk off. She wouldn't leave the mobile home park at all. I think somebody has her," she said.
Police have received more than 1,000 tips since the little girl was last seen on March 27.
Over the weekend, police released video surveillance footage showing her skipping along a neighborhood street the same day she disappeared on March 27.
The reward money for information leading to Sandra's whereabouts is now close to $30,000.

Body of missing Northern California girl found
Remains discovered a couple of miles from where 8-year-old was last seen
TRACY, Calif. - The remains of a missing Northern California girl were found Monday in a suitcase recovered from a pond a couple of miles from where she was last seen more than a week ago, authorities said.
Farmworkers draining the irrigation pond found the suitcase containing Sandra Cantu's body, Tracy Police Chief Janet Thiessen said at an evening news conference.
Thiessen said the 8-year-old was wearing the same clothes she wore when last seen on March 27: a pink "Hello Kitty" T-shirt and black leggings.
Massive search
Authorities planned an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
"Our heartfelt sympathies go to Sandra's family and friends," she said. "We will determine the person or persons responsible for this reprehensible act, and we will bring them to justice."
Sandra's disappearance sparked a massive search effort around Tracy, about 60 miles east of San Francisco, that included hundreds of volunteers and law enforcement officials, including the FBI, and more than 1,000 tips.
Before the evening's dramatic announcement, investigators cordoned off the area surrounding the pond for hours and combed it for clues, as television trucks and reporters gathered in the flat farmland nearby.
‘Unimaginable loss’
Police had been to the pond earlier in their search efforts, but it was full of water, Police Sgt. Tony Sheneman said.
"This is an unimaginable loss for any parent," he said.
Dozens of mourners — some holding candles, others wiping away tears — gathered outside the mobile home park where Sandra's family lives and she was last seen, as police blocked the entrance.
"I am still in shock," said Brandy Robles, 27, who held her 2-year-old son. "You see this in the movies. I never thought it would be real life — real to me."

Re: Sandra Cantu - killed by Melissa Huckaby
The autopsy was being conducted Tuesday, but it was not clear when the report would be available. "It's going to be some time before we hear from the coroner," Sheneman said. "I can't tell you when that's going to be."
More than 10 search warrants have been executed as part of the investigation and "a lot" of evidence has been recovered, Sheneman said.

The day Sandra was last reported seen, she returned home from school, kissed her mother and left to play with a friend who lives nearby. A short time later, wearing a pink Hello Kitty T-shirt and black leggings, she left to go to another friend's home, according to a family spokeswoman.
Police said Monday the girl's clothing helped them identify the body.

Re: Sandra Cantu - killed by Melissa Huckaby
(CNN) -- A surveillance video of 8-year-old Sandra Cantu, missing since March 27, shows the child in the mobile home park where she lives, skipping and happily swinging her arms on the day she disappeared in Tracy, California.
The grainy scene appears for about eight seconds before she disappears from view. Police Lt. Jeremy Watney showed the clip Saturday at a news conference, but offered no details.
"I can't get into specifics of where it came from. That's all part of the investigation," he said. "The CD will show you exactly how she looked on that particular day when she went missing."
In the video, the girl emerges from a pathway at the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park into what appears to be an alley. To her right is the corner of what looks like a wooden deck; there seem to be deep shadows on the left.
Watney said authorities initially thought Sandra was carrying a purse or backpack, but the images turned out to be shadows. He said authorities have "hundreds of hours of videotapes" in the case.
The day the child disappeared, she came home from school, kissed her mother and left to play with a friend who lives a couple of homes away. A short time later, she left that home to go to another friend's home, according to a spokeswoman for her family. She was reported missing about 8 p.m.
